Mommy Guilt busting thread...

OK, a LONG time ago, I suggested a weekly thread about 'mommy guilt' busting. So, essentially what are you, as a Mom doing right and how are you taking care of yourself (in order to ensure you've got the resources available to take care of your kiddo...)

So, I'm really going to try to remember to post this on Mondays (I was going to try for Fridays, but it just didn't work out).

Here are the questions:

1) What positive thing did you do as a Mom this week?

2) What did you do for yourself this week?

Ready, set, GO!

Re: Mommy Guilt busting thread...

  • 1) What positive thing did you do as a Mom this week?

I've let Jenna 'fall'. She's getting better at sitting up unsupported and I realized if I'm always there to correct her, she won't really be able to work on her balance. So, I've been allowing her to prop herself up on her arms, then when she shifts her weight to the side, I let her flop on the couch (really, sounds bad but she's getting it).

This past weekend, I was able to spend a good amount of 'quality' time with her instead of running around like a chicken with my head cut off (like normal). It was good to be with her, play with her.

    2) What did you do for yourself this week?

I went to a GNO with my Mom's group on Friday night :) We had a good time! I also picked up knitting in favor of 'parenting/motherhood' books and I've got the knitting itch again! it's fantastic :)

  • 1) What positive thing did you do as a Mom this week?

I let Mason pick out his new shoes & walk up and down the aisle to try them out.  He did so well, walking slowly down the aisle, and then running back.  He even rejected the first pair, saying, "Mommy, no like it."  He's so proud of his new shoes & wanted to show everyone in the neighborhood!

    2) What did you do for yourself this week?

I got my hair did!  Yay!

  • 1) I feel bad about acknowledging this because it may sound like I was depriving him all along, but we've been doing some more one-on-one time with Aiden. I'll be honest in that I don't get much one-on-one time with either of them and especially Aiden. So, we set aside a time each day where we build one of his amazing towers and then we go into a corner and we read. He has such an amazing proud look on his face when he builds a tower or garage. And, he likes to flip through a lot of books and try to say new words. :) With Sean, I will spend a bit of each day coloring with him. I had forgotten how much fun it is to color. :)

    2) I let myself buy a new jacket/vest...a top...and some scrapbooking supplies. I also finished my fall wreath and baked cookies and bread. :)

  • 1.  I let her "fuss it out" for the second time since she has been born. She hasn't yet learned the art of self soothing so I let her babble and fuss before going to bed one night.  She was out like a light after 10 minutes.  usually I would have picked her up but I think she needs encouragement to go to sleep with no boob in her mouth!

    2.  I took a long bath and got some for fun reading done.

  • 1) What positive thing did you do as a Mom this week? I have been working hard on getting Natalie on a better schedule...and it has been working. She is sleeping great, and eating great and generally a lot happier.

    2) What did you do for yourself this week? I went wine tasting on Saturday at dh's work, it was a blast...and the wine was delish.

Yikes #1 I'm not sure. I've bascially been a single mom this week and feel like i've just been surviving.

#1 counts! you're getting through :) Surviving as a "single Mom" = a lot of hard work :) AND you got some girl time in there, too! Good work.

  • #1) This week I taught Jackson to reach to the sky when asked: how much does mommy love you? and I bought him a new childrens music CD for our long drives commuting

#2) Spent a TON of quality girlfriend time this weekend.... i miss spending so much time with my girls....

  • PS it was so fun to meet you this weekend! Smile
  • What a fantastic post!!

    1) When Estelle and I got up for the day on both Sat and Sun morning, I played with her rather than parking her next to me on the couch while I drank my coffee. It was awesome and she took fantastic morning naps both days. Then yesterday early evening when she was fussing from boredom I took her for a walk around the neighborhood in the Ergo.

    2) I'm reading a fun book now instead of a mothering book. (Water for Elephants - so far, it's amazing!)

  • 1) What positive thing did you do as a Mom this week?

I've gotten better at showing Grey that there are consequences to things, even if it upsets him.

    2) What did you do for yourself this week?

I went bowling last night with my sister and some of her friends.

  • What a great post! ??1) What positive thing did you do as a Mom this week?I held my own music class with her! We just banged on drums together and I sang her as many songs as I could remember!?2) What did you do for yourself this week?I really started to diet hard. I couldn't for the past 2 years because of pregnancy, and nursing - but I'm ready to really finally shed off those final pounds, once and for all. Lucky me, thanksgiving is around the corner!?
  • 1) What positive thing did you do as a Mom this week?  I spent A LOT of time with D this weekend and had an extra day to do so. We have been playing lots in his room, and he gets so happy to see me sitting on the floor with him. He will close the door so it is just us (or to trap me in HA) and sit on my lap and play.

    2) What did you do for yourself this week?  This is a hard one. I went grocery shopping on my own Sat. morning and that was a treat.

  • Nice idea :)

     1. Organized J's outfits into little mesh bags.  That not might sound like anything crazy, but my DH dresses J and Friday's outfit was the last straw.  He wore a pooh onesie, with a striped long sleeve onesie OVER it, non matching gray skull babylegs, cameo socks and....shorts.  I made a drawer with bags of outfits so that can not happen again!

    2. One weekend days I bring J into bed with me for a little extra snooze time.  My DH calls that move the snooze button!
