Why is aquafor so expensive?

After suggestions from here from multiple people to try aquafor for DS's cheek rash I have been trying to find it. I have looked and haven't found it in stores here, so have found it online. Why the heck are they charging over $20 for some cream? Is it really that great? Others here have suggested just using vaseline, which I tried, but it is getting worse, not better, so I am desperate. I just don't understand how they can charge so much, but if it is so highly rec'd by so many people, I guess it must be worth it? Or maybe it's cheaper in the US? (I'm in Canada).

  • Use Vaseline.  It is what the majority of aquaphor.  Target also sells a generic.

Is it really basically the same? Because in that case the aquafor probably won't even work, because the Vaseline has not. We don't have Target in Canada unfortunately, but I have just used regular baby Vaseline.

  • I bought a tube for around 5$.  It is working on DSs drool rash and his carpet burn on his knees.  Ditto PPs suggestion to look on amazon.

I'm sure there is a comparable cream available locally there. Amazon seemed to have some deals that were decent. I bought a huge tub 3ish years ago and I'm only half way through. It does work really well.

I did buy something that I thought seemed similar too, and thought it was working at first, but now I don't know what to think. If I try something, it gets worse, if I leave it, it gets worse. My poor babies little cheeks just look to red and bumpy, although I know it doesn't bug him, I feel like I should try to find something to help it if I can.

  • We also got ours on amazon mom. It was 7 dollars for a decent sized tube. It seems to be working pretty well on my DD's dry skin.

  • Don't know but I use the CVS generic version or vaseline and works just fine

Vaseline is better per DS2's dermatologist -- purer.  He has really bad eczema on his cheeks that break open and bleed.  The vaseline did help.

  • DD has a nasty, crusty, dry red chin that we used vaseline on religiously for about two weeks.  Within 2 days of starting the Aquaphor is cleared right up.  It is a form of vaseline, but has some other properties that add benefit!

  • Aquaphor also has lanolin in there which is a skin protectant.
  • Because that stuff works!!! Especially for diaper rash if you mix it with Maalox and apply it to baby's rash.

Have you tried diaper cream on the rash?  The Aveeno one is really good and doesn't smell as strong, but of course you have to rub it in well or else it will show up white.

I second Avenoo!  It's more expensive than the generic, but it REALLY is awesome and it doesn't smell yukcy like other ones... It's not too expensive and there are always coupons available.  :)
