Tell me about your hospital bag

What are you bringing and how early did you pack it?  I want to start gathering the things I think I'll need.  Not sure whether or not I'm having a CS.  Thanks!

Re: Tell me about your hospital bag

  • I started packing weeks ago to make sure I had everything in the trunk of my car by 36 weeks.

I have a nightgown/robe, two pairs of other pjs with pants, a full size towel, shampoo, conditioner, hairbrush, travel size toothbrush, toothpaste, nursing bra, fuzzy socks, breast pads, and lanolin cream.  I don't have any coming home clothes for myself in there because we live pretty close to the hospital and DH is only spending the first night in my room with me, he can bring me clothes when he comes to pick us up the second day.

I have the diaper bag in the car, too with two coming home outfits (NB and 0-3 months, just in case) a blanket and a fuzzy overcoat onesie thing - and a pacifier which we may or may not use but I know the hospital doesn't give them out so I'd rather have it and not need it.

I will probably bring the breast pump with me, I'll be visited by a LC anyway so I might as well have it to ask her questions.

  • I packed most of the stuff I'm bringing to the hospital already just in case I go early (I'm 33 weeks, btw).  For my bag i packed: comfortable pants, shorts, flip flops, sneakers & socks, sweatshirt, nursing tanks + bras, soft tops, nursing cover, lanolin cream, underwear, toiletries, camera, iphone, ipad + chargers, and always infinity pads.  I also plan on bringing my pillow.  For my LO I packed: blanket, 4 outfits, socks, hat, swaddler, burp cloth, wipes, diapers, lotion, and pacifier.

Check with your hospital to see what they provide you with.  For example, mine doesnt give you wipes, they give you cloth thingies that you have to run under water.  I also heard bringing an extra bag for gifts and things ppl bring is a good idea too!

  • For me I am relatively close to home..

I have a towel (I love my big fluffy towels lol)

A birthing Gown. Yoga pants & tshirt for after, fuzzy socks,

A travel toiletry kit  with travel shampoo, conditioner, tootherpaste, brush, contacts, solution, etc)

Phone Chargers, Ipod, Granola Bars and Redbull for DH, coming home outfit for baby, two different brands of pacifiers (my hospital does NOT provide them) I am not bringing a diaper bag since everything we need for the baby is pretty much provided to us at the hospital) Im of the mind that less is more..

Oh and my camera bag with extra batteries, memory cards, charger, lenses, etc..

  • mine is only partially packed:

    yoga pants

    nursing tank

    underwear

    granola bars

travel size toiletries and a toothbrush

    breast pads

    lanolin

    later i will add:

    wallet (insurance card and ID)

phone (with charger. i have an iphone, so this is also my camera/video camera)

    makeup

    cardigan or hoodie

    probably more snacks

    possibly some slippers

i'm also bringing my diaper bag which has LO's items:

    aden + anais swaddle

2 going home outfits (NB and 0-3), including socks and a hat

    burp cloth

pacifiers (which i don't want to use right away, but i feel like i should have them)

    baby nail clippers and file

and usual diaper bag stuff (wipes, butt paste, ect)

    oh, and the Boppy.

now that i type it all out it seems like a lot...

  • When i was pregnant with my twins, i started packing right around 28 weeks.  I packed the world with them bc i had no clue what i would actually want and need.  Now that i have been there done that, i will be packing the following.  An outfit for me to come home in ( gym clothes) no jeans and nothing tight, an outfit for the baby to come home in, Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, a loofa, socks, and chapstick.  I however will not be laboring, so electronics are not needed for me.  If i was laboring, i know i would bring my phone, ipad, and devices to charge them, and Earphones.

  • My bag sounds a lot like yours- robe, jammies, fuzzy socks, travel-size toiletries, etc. I also packed my Snuggie because I freakin' love it and take it everywhere with me, LOL, some of my own towels and washcloths because hospital linens kind of gross me out, and a bikini in case I decide to labor for a while in the hot tub thing that is going to be in my hospital room. That way people can still come in to hang out with me and I won't be embarrassed by being naked or whatever. Also, don't forget hair ties and headbands- nothing more annoying than having your hair all in your face when you're trying to do something important. Oh, and I packed nursing pads and about 10 maxi pads in case the ones at the hospital are the rubbishy old-fashioned kind that make you feel like you're wearing a mattress.

For baby, I packed a separate bag (his diaper bag) with onesies in both NB and 0-3 sizes, a little sleep gown, a swaddle sack thing, some hats, his coming-home outfit, a couple pairs of tiny socks, and a fleece snowsuit type thing in case it's cold out that day. I also packed a pacifier and about 15 diapers in case the ones at the hospital aren't good for some reason, his Boppy, and his little nail clippers because I heard he's going to have long nails when he's born. I probably packed way too much, but better safe than sorry, I think.

I even packed a little separate bag for DH with a change of underwear, socks and T-shirt and a spare toothbrush, and I'm going to throw some of his favorite snacks in there for him too, so he doesn't get hungry. I'm packing a few snacks for myself too, when the time comes- granola bars, maybe some applesauce or Jello cups, bottled water. It looks like we're packed for a 3-month trip to Europe instead of 48 hours in a hospital, but whatever, I want to be prepared.

  • A nightgown, yoga pants, tank top, shampoo/conditioner, toothbrush/paste, Makeup, underwear, computer, phone, chargers, camera (digital and video).  I will be bringing home a peri bottle from the hospital!
  • I don't have a bag packed yet but I have made a list and I'm slowing putting things in LO's crib. This is baby #3 for me and I've never gone into labor before. I don't expect LO to arrive any sooner than my c-section date but I don't want to forget anything. We live an hour away from the hospital so if I forget anything I'll either have to do without or DH will be running to the store.

I'll be in the hospital for up to 4 nights and I want extras of clothes in case LO pees and spits up all over them like his brothers did. Here is my list.

    5pair yoga pants

    5 t-shirts

2 nursing bras and nursing pads

    socks, slippers, underwear and pads

    toiletries

    breastpump, boppy,

8 sleepers, hats, blankets, going home outfit for LO

    pillows for DH and I

My going home outfit will be what I wear to the hospital. I'll make sure I wear crocs because they will be the only shoes that fit once I leave.

    camera

DH will pack his own bag of stuff.

  • I had our bags packed and in the car at 34 weeks (I wanted to be prepared).

L&D bag: a pillow as I like my own, birthing ball (uninflated), back massager, robe.  I meant to throw in a couple magazine and puzzle books but forgot them.  I also threw in a couple snacks and drinks for DH.

My bag: comfy clothes for after delivery and going home, nursing tanks/bras, socks, towel (hospital ones were tiny and thin), toiletries, hair brush.

LO's bag: going home clothes, a couple outfit changes for LO, diapers and wipes (in case we needed them on the way home, hospital provided while there), baby book.

In my purse were my wallet with insurance info which the hospital already had anyways, cell phone and charger, and camera and battery charger.
