My BFF just went into labor after having sex, eating a super spicy lunch, walking the mall, getting a pedicure, and then finally adding 2 tablespoons of castor oil to a smoothie today (in that order). They chose not to find out the gender, so they're beside themselves with excitement right now. It's been a while since I thought about going into labor so I was just curious, did any of the OWT's actually work for you guys? I'm sure this has been asked approximately 65,431 times in various variations on TB but none of them worked for me, so I was just curious.

Re: Did any OWT's work to start your labor?
Not unless a horse-sized dose of pitocin is an OWT.
That sounds like a busy day though.
Haha, seriously. That girl can clean circles around me while being 9 months pregnant, and with a 2 year old in tow. Her house is consistently immaculate, and it boggles my mind. She was just DONE being pregnant and a little bitter because she could have had her c-section yesterday, but her husband thought having a baby on the 13th was bad luck. So she woke up determined to have a baby today. Guess it worked!
4 days overdue... I spent the day in a rocking in a chair with my legs apart drinking raspberry tea, eating BW3s spicy wings during the full moon.
Sounds crazy but I had no contractions up until that night / next morning.
This just made me LOL, for real. Uh, what are you talking about? 9 month pregnant sex is awesome!
I got a prenatal pedi the day before my water broke. She said she did massage with pressure points to induce labor. Not sure if that was it or DD was just ready to be out.

I was 3 days overdue and as a last ditch attempt I ordered a large order of spicy as hell chicken wings. My water broke at 3 AM that morning. I was 3 days over so I'll never know if it was the wings or if it would have happened anyway...but no contractions or false labor beforehand.
I went in on Monday & was told baby was not going to come for J's Birthday on Wednesday.
I spent 5 hours legs spread wide open bouncing on a ball Tuesday, ate homemade mac & cheese, & had lots of sex.
1:45ish am I woke up with contractions. Had W on J's 30th Birthday.
I think OWT work if you are ready to go. If you arent they do nothign so... they kind work.
This is what I know. After a glass of sangria my 20 min apart contractiosn dropped to 12. After sex they dropped to 8.. After walking my water broke.
But Id had sangria the week before, we had TONS or sex and TONs of walking. It helped when I was in labor, not before.
Didn't try any per se, although I did walk the dog every day up to going into labor. Not sure if it helped or not.
I've heard that those things basically only work if your body is gearing up anyway. Outside of inductions/scheduled c-sect I think babies arrive when they feel damngood and ready.
Nothing worked for me besides pitocin either.
I remember trying pineapple that made me really sick to my stomach, used to do the special foot massages regularly. Sex, tons of EPO orally + vaginally (as per my midwives) lots of walking. A few days before my induction H went and got a bottle of castor oil, my midwife told me it put her into labor with her first but she did not recommend it unless it was the absolute last option. LOL I could never bring myself to drink it, so maybe that would have done it. Also I ate spicy food the entire time so I wouldn't have expected that to do anything.
I'm sure I tried other things at the time, this is all I really remember.

They didn't work for me. I was 5 days late and had to be induced. I tried sex, spicey foods, I walked 2 miles everyday, raspberry tea. Maybe next time I will try castor oil, I was too chicken, thinking it would give me diarrhea.
As OP said, I think OWT work if you are ready to go anyway. FTR, I was only a fingertip dialated, so I wasn't ready.
She mixed the castor oil (about 3 tablespoons) into a smoothie, so she couldn't taste it. And yes, it gave her diarrhea pretty bad. I went over there for dinner last night and she was in the bathroom about half of the time. When I was getting ready to leave her braxton-hicks contractions started getting more serious and she couldn't talk through them. They decided to go in around 10:30 and had a beautiful, healthy baby BOY (!) at midnight last night.
