Stay at Home Moms

Walker

Hi all! Long time reader, first time poster. I usually find the answers to my questions, and rarely have anything to add as a 1st time clueless mom. Please forgive my lurking DS is 7 months and an early mover, crawling just after 5 months. He's been standing against toys and furniture for a couple weeks and has started trying to walk by pushing the toys, but none are meant for or steady enough for this. I heard walkers are no longer recommended and can't find a toy that will hold his weight (small, 16 lbs). Any solutions you all can recommend?

Re: Walker

  • Something like this would work.  We had it with both kids and then I gave it to a friend when her son started to try and walk.

We have this as well, and DS still loves to push it around the house.  He was able to start using it right when he started trying to walk, and I felt like it offered plenty of support.

  • I have an early mover, too. We got a walker. We have a very open floorplan and the only staircase is closed off, so I wasn't concerned. I mean, you obviously have to keep your eye on them- walkers aren't babysitters, but it was a life saver for us!! I think it actually helped him get the strength and coordination to walk safely without it. He was walking really well at 9m and now he doesn't sit down, he just RUNS!!! (so on second thought, maybe I shouldn't have helped him!! LOL)

  • Thank you all for your input!!!

LynsiBHM - 9 months!!!  OMG - I'll go insane, I'm in no rush.  I've been fighting him standing by not helping him up, but he started pulling up on his own.  I'm beginning to think the more I fight it the faster he goes, so I'm going to try reverse psychology.  HA!  Mind games with a 7 month old... I'm going to lose.  :)
