Argh! Failed my 1 hour GTT

Hi:

Just found out I failed my 1 hr GTT, now I have to the 3 hour. But doc is putting me on a diet first and then a fast the night before. Anyone have details on the diet part? I hated the one hour. Worst part is, I've barely eaten sweets or anything like that while pregnant. I feel like I am being  punished. Stupid placenta!

  • Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, I don't have any helpful answers for you - but do have a question. How long after your test did you get the results? I just took the test yesterday morning and haven't heard anything yet...

  • Aw I'm sorry you failed your 1 hour. Hopefully you will pass your next test with flying colors!

  • I took the 3 hour test after failing the 1 hour and received the results that afternoon that I passed.  I had an 8:30 appointment so the results were given to me around 4:00 that day.

All I had to do was fast from midnight no dietary changes.

  • The doc said it would be 48 hours. But I took the test last week Wednesday and just received the call today that I failed. Hopefully, you hear back quicker than this. I thought I was in the clear.

  • That 1-hour test is SOOO STUPID! More than 1/2 of my friends have failed that test. They should just give everyone the 3-hour and prevent girls from doing this twice! (Or compromise and make it a 2-hour test! haha)

I failed my 1 -hour and when my DR told me I had to take the 3-hour I was SOOOO SAD! (Not to mention, my arms looked like some junkie's arms after all the needles!) I did the 3-hour and passed with FLYING COLORS!

You'll be absolutely fine - i did fast the night before and I stayed away from lots of carbs, etc the day before JUST IN CASE. (Had chicken and veggies for dinner.)

    GOOD LUCK!

  • THANK YOU to the last 2 posters, that really gives me some relief. I also have a higher level of amniotic fluid, but baby is measuring perfectly. So I've been googling all day making myself even more worried. :( I have chicken in the crock pot and a big salad planned for dinner, then I'll fast for the remainder of the night (have to be at the lab at 7am tomorrow.) Anyone have any experience with having high fluid levels? My doc doesn't seem concerned, but even that can't calm a FTM's nerves!

  • I just found out I failed my 1 hr too. I'm pretty upset about it, mostly because I have a hard time with blood draws and getting 3 draws in 3 hours is a total nightmare. Good luck to you, hope you pass.
  • Do not worry too much, ladies. I failed my 1 hr and was sure I would fail my three hr because Baby was measuring so large and I had gained so much weight despite watching what I was eating like a hawk. Also, I was so incredibly exhausted...in my mind, all signs pointed to GD.

When I was taking the 3 hr, which was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, I asked the nurse how many people fail the one hr and pass the three hr. Her response was, with a little smirk on her face like she'd heard that question a trillion times before, "Almost everyone."

I passed my 3 hr. If I hadn't however, I had made peace with the GD possibility. There are plenty of women (many on this board, I'm sure) who have had very successful births with GD - it can be managed!! But not passing your 1 hr is no cause for alarm.
