Working Moms

Anyone with little kiddo's work late (like 1am)?

Tell me about it PLEASE!!!  I may have the opportunity to get a stepping stone type of position at an organization that I'd LOVE to work with!  Only problem is that the hours would be between 4pm and 10am until I moved up.  I figure I could try to get the first shift which would be over at 1am.

Anyone here do this?  Can you tell me about how it works?  How do you feel?  Does DH take the first couple hours in the mornings so you can sleep in?

TIA!!

Re: Anyone with little kiddo's work late (like 1am)?

  • I work 2pm-2am 3 days a week. This shift works for my and DH's current work shifts. He currently works 5pm-5:30am Fri-Sun, and then 7am-11am on Tuesdays. I try to work my 3 shifts between Mon-Thurs, so there is usually at least 1 day where I have to get up early with the girls because DH is either sleeping (Monday) or at work (Tuesday). On the other days he lets me sleep in, but I am the one that usually takes the middle of the night wake ups because they usually happend soon after I get home from work (which will hopefully soon end).

There are some days where I feel tired and exhausted. Mondays are the worst, mainly because I am recovering from taking care of both kids for 3 days straight, and then have to go to work. I like the fact that DH and I have been able to share childcare responsibilities and we have avoided daycare thus far, this is soon to change.

I like it because I feel like I still get to spend a good chunk of time with my LO's. I can still get errands done if needed and don't have to take off work for doctors appointments, etc because I can schedule them for like late morning and still get to sleep in.

  • I work 11a-11:30pm 3 days a week.  It's the only shift that works for us right now.  We couldn't afford to send our kids to their daycare more then 3 days a week.  DH works a normal 8-5 job.  I get up with the kids at 8am, get them ready, do breakfast and drop them off at daycare at 10am then go to work.  DH picks them up by 5:30 and does dinner and bedtime.  I will say I'm exhausted when I work multiple days in a row, but it works for us.  I can't wait them to to start school so I can get a different shift or totally different field of nursing,
