I wrote down what would happen at our first appointment in a little yellow notebook, that I'm going to say thanks to pregnancy brain I can't seem to find haha. I could have sworn she said I would get an ultrasound, but with all these posts coming up it seems like 50/50 on whether you get an ultrasound at your first. I've debated calling them just to ask again haha, because I don't want to be getting my hopes up and then not have one done. Just curious if maybe I'm crazy for thinking they told me I would get one.
Re: Anyone not get an u/s at their first appt?
Thanks
My first appt is the 20th so I'll almost be 7 weeks as long as my calculations are correct, which I'm pretty sure they are. So we will see
DS 10/31/12
BFP 11/18/14
EDD 7/31/15
July15 Siggy Challenge: Favorite holiday movie. Bad Santa!
Yay indeed!!
I think it depends on what kind of doc you see first. Some people are seeing a reproductive endocrinologist because they are having trouble TTC, and so when they get that first positive test at home, they go in for betas and then an U/S or two at five or six weeks to make sure things are progressing before moving on to their regular OB-GYN.
However, if you got pregnant on your own or without trouble, you will just see your regular OB-GYN around 8 weeks, and they don't usually give U/S until the triple screen at the beginning of the second tri, unless you have some signs of problems. Normally, all OB visits entail are pee in a cup and a quick internal, and then later, checks for fundal height or checking for a HB with the Doppler. They are always quick and short if things are normal.

Call and ask if you don't want to be disappointed! I don't get one until 20 weeks.
My two pregnant friends got an u/s at ~8w. My first appointment wasn't until 12.5 weeks, so after waiting SO LONG, I was bummed when they said 20 weeks. But when I heard the heartbeat for the first time................I didn't care anymore. To hear the heartbeat was amazing! I think I just wanted to know something in there is alive. Now I can wait 2 more months for my u/s. GOOD LUCK!
