After our 2nd is born, I am seriously considering getting my tubes tied. I have heard of some women getting this done while they are in the hospital, after they give birth. Would you only be able to do this if you had a c-section?
Have any of you had your tubes tied? For those who have had it immediately after a birth, did it add any extra time to your recovery? For those of you who did not have it after the birth, what was the recovery period? What type of issues did you have - any bleeding? Pain?
Re: Has anyone had their tubes tied?
I work on mother-baby so I have prepped moms for the procedure. Our hospital does it the day after birth. You have an IV, no food/drinks after midnight. I don't know much about the procedure itself because I've never seen it done. They take the moms to the operating room, they come back about an hr later with a small bandage on their belly. They go home as a normal post partum mom would, in 2 days.
They do it during the c-section, it just takes a few extra minutes.
My hospital has a poilcy in place, the paperwork must be submitted to the Dr ahead of time, like 3 weeks in advance or something, so check with your OB on that! GL Momma! And congrats on baby #2!
I just recently had it done 2 months ago.. I was supposed to have it done when DD was born, but since she decided to come so quickly and I had NO pain killers, this did not happen. They did not offer to do it in the hospital after she was born, which I wish they would have, maybe since it was right at the holidays (thanksgiving). It was done Outpatient. But the recovery for me was he!!. I woke up the next morning and could not move. It felt like I had been hit by a truck. Every single muscle in my body hurt. My OB had told me to expect my shoulders to be sore, from the gases traveling up in my body from where they blew up belly since it was done lapriscopicly (sp). But, man, I did not expect that.. That lasted 2 solid days. It took about a week to get back to my normal self. I did go back to work that following Tuesday, not really feeling "normal" but I managed. I did have DD vaginally and had no intentions of doing a C-section and they knew that going in and were still planning on doing the tubal at the time of delivery.
Hi. I'm pretty much a lurker on this board, but I did have my tubes tied. I had a c section with DD and they did it right after they delieverd her. I had a vaginal birth with DS, so I'm not sure if it added any time to my recovery. The biggest difference I've noticed is MUCH heavier periods. Again, I'm not sure if this is a result of the tubal or just my body changing after having two babies in a fairly short time period.
When I was discussing the tubal with my dr, we weren't sure if I was going to need a c section. She said that they could do it after a vaginal birth too. If I remember correctly, she said she could do it laproscopicaly(sp?).
