2nd Trimester

Anyone else feeling behind?

I sort of feel like DH and I are going to be rushing around at the last minute trying to get stuff together  for baby.  I?m suddenly feeling overwhelmed about the amount of stuff we?ll need.  So far we have like 3 or 4 outfits and NOTHING else!

We did start a registry and did all of the ?big? stuff and the fun stuff.  Like we registered for the stroller, car seat, nursery d?cor?etc.  We still need to go back to do the ?little? things though.   We also decided not to bother registering for things like first aid and diapers, which means we need to make sure we get that on our own.

We have yet to go shopping for a crib or any other nursery furniture.  I think most of this part is because we?ve been so pre-occupied with searching for a home to buy.  We finally found one but don?t make settlement until sometime in May.  Now our apartment is about to turn into a crazy packing zone on top of all of this.

I?m just sort of feeling really unprepared and far behind. I?m not even sure where to start.  I still feel like I don?t know anything about caring for a baby, so I?m feeling UBER behind.

Ok.  Deep Breath.   I keep telling myself I have plenty of time. I know I need to calm down, I just have a lot on my plate right now and I?m having a little trouble figuring out what to do first.  I?m sure once we move into the new place and have an actual nursery, things will start to fall into place.

Anyone else feeling like this?

Re: Anyone else feeling behind?

  • I dont currently feel this way- but I did when I was pregnant with my first. I was 5 months pregnant when we moved, bought a house, repainted, had floors done and then had my baby shower 2 months later.. its amazing how it all comes together.

It will all work out promise!

  • You've still got lots of time. Most people start their big shopping after the A/S so you're not behind.

  • You definitely have plent of time. I've been telling myself that I won't start the nursery until May and even then it may get pushed to June due to travel.  We have not purchased anything, but also have started the registry.

  • I felt that way with my first child, but I have to say that once she was born I was humbled to see how much new babies actually need. I'm pretty sure the big baby stores are why I thought I needed so much stuff!  As long as you get a car seat to bring them home, a few packs of onesies with pants, some diapers, and have some way to feed your baby (formula and bottles or breastfeeding), you'll be all set.

You'll feel like it is all coming together in just a couple of months. You certainly aren't behind! We didn't start putting a nursery together until 30 weeks last time.

I am starting to feel the same way.  We just signed a contract on our house, will be moving into a temporary apartment after the closing and will begin building our house by May 1.  Its overwhelming to think of all we have to get done, but in reality, a newborn doesn't really need too much.  I'm just trying to get through it day by day and look forward to meeting our LO.

  • We haven't bought anything aside from a tiny pair of shoes that we used for our Facebook announcement photo. Our shower will be early, probably no later than 30 weeks, so we're going to wait until after that to buy anything else we need. We won't have a nursery but there will still be things to set up and the biggest task will be cloth diaper prep!

I feel really weird when people talk about buying the crib and other big things at 12 or so weeks. I feel weird having things at home yet... we inherited a bouncy seat and a Bumbo seat two weeks ago when we went to announce to family and they're still in the car! I don't think we'll even have any outfits before the shower.

  • Yes!

I feel behind too! There has been a lot going on lately, but we decided we are buying/doing major clean up next weekend. I'm due in June, but I feel like I have to get things going!

  • I think these boards can certainly contribute to feeling "behind."  I always get a bit panicked when I see posts about "completed" nurseries or registries and baby purchases.

I have purchased nothing but a diaper bag and I have not even considered starting my registry.  I had a friend (who is only due 1 month before me) literally shudder when she learned that I had not started interviewing baby nurses yet... We are still living in a 1-bedroom apartment and although we have an offer out on a larger place, a move could be months and months away.  It's a bit odd for me, because I am usually a pretty neurotic planner, but I'm sure that things will fall into place in time for me and for you too.  Good luck!

  • I feel the same way.... we are redoing our kitchen right now, which should be ready in about 3 weeks.  Then, we are redoing the living room... meanwhile everything for the new kitchen is in what will be the nursery, so we can't even start the nursery until the kitchen is done... it's all piling up and I am so worried that everything is going to be last minute and I am going to have no time to just relax before the baby comes!

  • I feel the same way. My husband and I were both laid off recently and have to pack up and re-rent our current house, re-locate to a new city, find a new place to live, get new jobs, get a new OB, make sure our insurance transfers easily....not to mention we have bought nothing for our baby boy yet. :( We are registered and my shower is in a few weeks, but still have so much to figure out! I keep telling myself that we will work everything out and we have plenty of time, and I know we will but it's definitely stressful!!! Best of luck with your situation. It will all work out!

  • I'm also 21 weeks.  I haven't done as much as you and I feel AHEAD of schedule.  The registry is done - so I know exactly what I need/want.  I don't have a single outfit except for some neutral onsies and sleepers.  People will give clothes as gifts.  Newborns don't really need outfits anyway.  We'll look in to daycare centers in a couple months.
