feeding schedule once back to work

so when I go back to work on 4/1 I'll be picking up the girls at 5:15pm. By the time we get out of there and get home it could be 6:15/6:30. I think the way teh feeding schedule will go for my LO will beapprox 6,9,12,3,6,7:30 bed. I would like to nurse her when we get home but if its already 6:30 then I'll be feeding her like an hour later for bed which really wont work b/c of dinner and trying to spend some time wiht my oldest. Plus I'm worried if she hasn't eaten since 3pm she'll start to get hungry and cry on the car ride home. I don't know what to do and its annoying b/c with my first I had a different job and had flex hours and picked her up at 4:14 and we got home a lot earlier! any suggestions would be appreciated!! :)

thanks!

Re: feeding schedule once back to work

  • That is the exact schedule I tried to stick to when I went back to work. When we walked in the door I would nurse right away.  Had to have dinner prepared in advance so it was right on the table for the older kids.  I would put him to bed at 8 though and would nurse again.  Obviously it is a pretty flex schedule at that age but that is the general guideline we tried to follow.

  • I would not worry too much about having a strict schedule and let your baby work it out in time. But I would ask your DCP to give the baby a bottle around 4 or 4:30 so your LO isn't starving before you get home.

  • I wouldn't suggest having a schedule that early on.
  • I didn't have an older DC to deal with but personally, I fed DS right when I got home (was anywhere between 5pm and 6pm) and then fed again at bedtime (7pm).  Yeah, it was close together but it was kind of like cluster feeding and I think it helped him sleep a wee bit longer since he was definitely full.

I often wondered how I'd do it with an older child.  I envision nursing the baby while in the room with the older child and interacting via talking?  Don't worry, before you know it they'll both be walking and talking!!  :)
