*tdmklm* re: Aruba

So the more I read, the more I'm loving Aruba (super safe, friendly, top 10 beaches, short(ish) flight, great restaurants, omg.get.me.there.now).

My question is, how was it travelling with a young child? Aside from the beaches/pools, was there much to do with a little one?

Re: *tdmklm* re: Aruba

  • Because I am 1) nosy 2) don't feel like doing my work 3) would rather plan a trip to Aruba rather than my own summer vacation with my father

  • Butting in.  You might want to consider Curacao where we went on our honeymoon.  Part of the Dutch islands (the governmental seat of the three islands including Aruba.  Very gay friendly and we found a gay owned resort that we loved.  We didn't look too much into what kid friendly stuff that is available but we did go to an ostrich farm which was really fun.  We stayed at Hotel Kura Hulanda and Kura Hulanda Beach club.

  • Aruba was AMAZING. Smile We weren't looking for tons of kid activities at the time because J was only ten months old, but the resort where we were seemed to have lots of stuff for kids. FWIW, there were lots (and I mean LOTS!) of kids at the resort, so I'm sure there was stuff to do - we just didn't pay attention because we were too busy taking turns falling asleep on the beach. Wink Oh, we stayed at La Cabana. If I could go back tomorrow, I'd be there. Actually, make that today.

Traveling with J was very easy, but I think you guys know we haven't shied away from international travel with a baby... We've been around quite a bit with him. One thing that definitely helped with the vacation part of the vacation was having a larger suite with two rooms; that way, when he went to sleep in one room, we could still be somewhat rowdy in the other (TV, cards, other stuff *ahem*) without having to worry about him. We did it with our timeshare, so I have no idea what the cost is for the suite (it was a one-bedroom with a pull-out in the living room). The other thing was that the restaurants in the resort opened early for dinner, so we could eat together before his bedtime.

They also advertised a babysitting service, but when we checked into it (right when we checked in - imagine that! Wink), they didn't seem to know exactly what the rates were. Which led me to believe they didn't do it very much. Which made me question who they'd bring in to watch the kiddo... Which means it ended up not happening. It would have been nice. Smile

Oh, and ssg is absolutely right: Curacao is also fantastic.
