XP: Informal job "interview" questions - help?

I am usually a lurker on this board, regular poster on Parenting, but that place is dead, so I thought I'd try here since this is really a work related question.

My company is going through a lot of change right now. As such, there is a lot of change in leaders and what that means for the people who work for them, including my direct supervisor. Just this morning, I got approached by another leader (my supervisor's peer) in our company to talk about "what I want to do and whether there may be a fit on our team."

I believe that you shouldn't close a door before it's even open, so I agreed to meet with her this afternoon.

Here's the problem. I don't know what I want to do. My supervisor mentioned that he wanted to recruit me to his new area. My existing team wants to keep me. And now this leader wants me to go to her.

So, my questions to the interwebs.... What questions should I ask during this somewhat informal fact-finding meeting. I know what's in store for me if I stay on my current team. The questions I have for her are: What did you have in mind for a role for me on your team? Is it a lateral move? What opportunities are there for growth? I currently enjoy a great work/life balance. Will that be something that's afforded to me on your team? I think that my discussion with her needs to be prefaced with the fact that I am considering staying with my current supervisor in his new team, since I do like working for him.

What am I missing?

  • you have great questions so far. the only things I can additionally think of are what are the opportunities for growth on this new team? and if the meeting goes well I'd ask for a job description in writing just as more info to mull over.
