Could it Be- No Adoption Audit?!

So I just checked the status of our refund from the IRS, and it said that our refund should be direct deposited on 3/15 (Thursday), and not to contact them until the 20th if it doesn't show.

That's it.

Nothing saying we were being sent a letter asking for additional documentation, etc.

Does this mean we're getting our full refund?! Or does that just mean that part w/o our adoption credit? I was fully anticipating sending in our life story and blood donation...

Ours shows that it is being processed and without delays, we should have it by April 17th. I have heard from several people who got their entire refund without any reviews/audits this year so maybe you will be one of them!!!! I'm praying that ours comes back with no problems also. Fingers crossed for us both.

We got ours last summer without an audit. We did file an extension and worked with a tax accountant to make sure all our paperwork was right. In the end, it just sailed through. I wonder if enough people put pressure on the IRS where they stopped requiring the audit. So, yes, it is definitely possible!

For those of you that received a status of when your refund would come, when did you mail in your paperwork? I mailed mine February 18th, and still cannot get a status with the IRS. I didn't get an audit last year, and received my refund, but maybe because of that, I'll be the one to get the audit this year.

We mailed ours Feb 4, and today was the first time I could get a status update, I check weekly.

I see you're in CA so we both would have mailed to the Fresno office. Maybe their office doesn't post updates until they are making payment?

Yes, fingers crossed for both of us! This would mean just one more teeny tiny step until I could stay home with DD!!

I mailed ours on 2/17 and they received it on 2/29 according to the post office (we sent it certified mail). This morning was the first day I have seen a status. I think it takes about 2 weeks from when they receive for your status to show up online.

We just mailed ours in, I'm hoping that with proper documentation there will be no audit needed or extra info needed. I hope you are a lucky one, keep us posted!

After I asked when you filed, those with direct deposit dates, I checked mine again and it now says April 17th! They must have released a ton of status updates today! So happy to see they have my return, I was starting to stress!

I checked again this morning (I'm a little OCD!) and mine says May 1st now due to processing delays but under my DH's SSN, it still says April 17th.

We were audited for this last year. If that turns out to be the case, it's really very easy. You send them copies of your checks for the adoption and any relevant paperwork. We sent them every "big" check (application, program fee, placement fee, etc.) along with our contract and the finalized adoption paperwork copies. It sucks but you will get your money.
