anyone had any luck changing their early riser wake up time?

I had high hopes that daylight savings time would do the trick; which it did for 2 days (he was up at 6 instead of his usual 5am)...but this morning that little bugger was ready to rise and shine at 5:15.  *sigh*  back to square one.

I wouldn't mind too much because that's the time I get up to get ready for work anyway, but the problem is, he obviously needs more sleep....he gets up at 5 and is miserable by 6.  Today, he was napping by 6:30am!

Anyone else still dealing with a baby who seems to think they work on a farm and gets up before the crack of dawn? Stick out tongue

  • Oh that is totally a perfect analogy.... 4:30 AM this morning.... Sigh, and I thought daylight savings time had done the trick! Nope, this morning she was right back at the 4:30 AM wake up. The two days before it was at least 5:15 or 6ish AM. I was really hoping she'd adjust.

K's the same way.... Wakes up at 4:30 AM, and while I'm getting dressed around 5:30 AM she's falling asleep again. Huh?  I wish she'd hold out that extra hour!!!

  • Hahaha, my LO also thinks he is working on a farm.

I had grand visions of V waking up at 6 AM instead of 5.  Like you I get up at 5:15ish, but I would rather him sleep until I'm ready to nurse him at 6.

I will say I'm lucky that he will roll around in the crib and play until I get my hair and makeup done.

  • DD was getting up at 5:30 all last week.  Sunday she slept until 6:30 (so really no difference since the clocks changed).  So I've been putting her to bed an hour later and she wakes up at 6:30 instead of 5:30.  So she was sleeping 7 - 5:30 and now she's sleeping 8 (usually closer to 7:45) til 6:30.  Today for some reason she woke at 6 but then fell back asleep until 7:30!!

  • Does your LO cry as soon as he wakes up or do you just automatically go in there when you see him moving around and playing?  Unless DS start crying, I don't go in his room until 7:30am.  A lot of times, he wakes up earlier and falls back to sleep after 10 minutes or so.

If he's just babbling or even just whining/fussing a little, I let him go and sit there & hope and hope that he falls back asleep. Unfortunately, that's never happened.  it normally escalates to a full on hysterical cry if I let it go on, and I end up going in to get him because I don't want him to wake up my 4 year old.  It's bad enough having one cranky kid at 5 in the morning! :(

  • We had this and spent a cranky week pushing back her bedtime by 15 min, then 30 min- now she gets up at 6 on the dot!

  • What time does he go to bed?  Do you think he will wake up later if you put him down later?  My DS gets up the same time no matter what time he falls asleep Sad.

  • I just read the Ferber book and I think they have a section about moving the wake time by starting the 1st morning nap later. That section didn't really apply to me so I just skimmed it but I think it would be worth getting the book to see what it says because getting up at 5 am sounds AWFUL!!!

He goes to bed around 7:30.  last night, he was actually up until 8 just because he was playing and happy (he normally starts to lose it around 7) but i guess it didn't make a difference!

  • Around 6 months, DD started waking up around 5:30 am and she did that for about a whole month. Thankfully, she just randomly started sleeping sometime between 6:15 and 6:45 am now. I was hoping that with daylight savings she would make it past the 7 am mark, but she only made it for the one day.
