If the 100 year cycle is true, these names will be all the rage when our babies are in high school/college. Which of these girls' names would you use? Pick three that you would consider using!
Top 20:
Mary
Betty
Dorothy
Helen
Margaret
Barbara
Patricia
Joan
Doris
Ruth
Shirley
Virginia
Dolores
Jean
Elizabeth
Frances
Lois
Joyce
Evelyn
Alice
Re: Top Girls' Names in 1930.
yikes I would use but only if I had to:
Elizabeth, Evelyn & sorry can't do it no third pick!
We are planning on using Elena, which has the same root as Helen.
My sister is Virginia, so I'd use it except for that. My college roommate is Jean. This is narrowing my choices here.
I'd contemplate using Frances, Ruth and Alice.
I'm sure Elizabeth has been at the top of the list for a LONG time. It is the epitome of a classic name.
Elizabeth
Margaret
Frances
I would/have considered a fair number of these!
My top three: Alice, Betty, Joyce (I didn't include Elizabeth, since it's been top 20 since the dawn of time...seems like a cop-out answer!)
My bottom three: Barbara, Shirley, Doris
At 24, I might be a good decade younger than some posters, which could affect how much I like these names... someone ten years older might associate a lot of these name with old women, whereas I've never met anyone by most of them.
Alice
Elizabeth
Virginia
My grandmother was born in 1929 and both her first and middle name are on that list.
I really like a lot of these names, actually.
My favorites: Alice, Evelyn, Elizabeth, Ruth, Helen, and Mary.
I know that's more than three, but like I said, I like them.
I guess I'm old-fashioned.

I am one of those older women and i agree 100% which is why i think i dislike old ladyish names so much....good point!
I think Mary, Margaret, and Elizabeth are all pretty popular still. AKA they don't scream 1930! to me.
I think Evelyn and Alice are trending right now.
I would definitely consider Helen, Frances, and Dorothy is my #1 right now! :-)
I would not ever use Patricia, Joan/Jean, Dolores, or Lois (Family Guy).
Some I would use b/c I love their nickname! Babs for Barbara, can't get any better!
Hmm, I'm not a fan of the 'old-lady' name trend, so most of these are NMS. I do LOVE Alice, though. My other two picks would be Margaret and Elizabeth- they're all beautiful, classic names!
edit: I forgot Frances. That was my grandmother's name, and we're definitely using it as a mn when we have a daughter.
Frances
Alice
Margaret
Elizabeth
...and I have a secret love for Dorothy (Dottie).

Mary, Joyce, and Elizabeth.
I love lots of these! Margaret is already our top girl choice, so I'll select 3 other ones.
Evelyn, Virginia and Elizabeth (Evie, Ginny and Betsy).
The only names I don't care for are Patricia, Shirley, Doris and Dolores. But I still prefer them to most names I see today...
Ooh, I like so many of those names!
Mary, Betty, Dorothy, Margaret, Barbara, Joan, Virginia, Elizabeth
Elizabeth nn Betty would be my favorite
It would be easier to list the names I wouldn't consider! Quite a few of these names were on our long list when we were choosing a name for Betsy.
If I HAVE to only pick three, I'd say Frances, Mary, and Margaret. Or Virginia. Or Dorothy. Gah!
Betty, Virginia, Frances, and Lois are my favorites.
ETA: I missed Margaret. Love Margaret! I actually like a lot of these names.
Elizabeth, Evelyn, and Alice
