Dry patches on face

With my last pregnancy, I got this bump on my face that looked like a pimple and then sort of burst into a dry itchy patch about the size of a dime on my face. I still have a small scar from it 2 years later.

Pregnant again, this exact thing has happened again but it is worse--way more itch and painful.  Does anyone else have this?  I can't find anything in a book that would match this symptom.

Re: Dry patches on face

  • My first thought is Eczema.  My dd has struggled with it forever and we have tried everything.  There are several otc meds you can try.  However since your last one left a scar I would make and appointment with a dermatologist.

  • I didm't get a bump like a pimple, but I have multiple patches of skin on my face that are so dry that the skin is obviously flaking off and it even cracked to the point of bleeding once. I have not found a solution, unfortunately.

  • This happened to me with my first, but hasn't been so bad with this one.

Maybe a humidifier would help until things balance out?

  • I have dry patches all over my face, and it's only gotten worse since the pregnancy.

My doctor diagnosed me with seborrehic dermatitis, and most of the treatments aren't safe at the moment for the little one. I used Selsun Blue once a week on my scalp and face per his reco, and that seems to help quite a lot.

Another thing I do to stop the flaking (since it's the only thing that works) is use a  very very fine layer of EVOO as a 'moisturizer' - works better than any cream I've found and is natural.

I'd still talk to your doc about it though, I know how the itching can get out of control and it's no fun... perhaps they can suggest something safe to give you relief.

I also recently had a dx of seborrehic dermatitis and use a cream that dr says is ok with pregnancy but its one of those where there really isnt enough research done so I will now start trying the EVOO.

Have you noticed any dandruff?  I was suprised when the dr asked if I had any and then noticed I did a tiny bit.  Started using dandruff shampoo and it has helped too.
Talk with your dr and see if they can do anything to help.

  • I don't notice any dandruff aside from along the hairline around my face... but my scalp is SOOOO itchy!

The EVOO won't cure anything, but it certainly helps the symptoms.

Also, since seborrehic dermatitis is an inflammatory condition, I try to eat an 'anti-inflammatory' diet. Lots of veg, greens, minimal processed foods, etc. I've upped my fish oils too.

  • Update: turns out that I have ringworm...gross.  I am an elementary school teacher and it is going around.  Apparently ringworm has nothing to do with worms, just a fungus.  Hopefully it will clear up soon!
