Poll: How old were you when you had your LAST child?

This poll is inspired by my birthday, which is making feel rather old, and by reading the post about jeans in which someone mentions her mother is only 6 years older than I am. Tongue Tied

So, how old were you when you had your LAST child? If you're currently pregnant, vote for your age at your due date. If you're not done having kids, just vote for the last one that was born.

Re: Poll: How old were you when you had your LAST child?

  • I was 30 when I had Owen but honestly I am the youngest of all of my friends who have kids. Most of them were in their late 30's when they had their last kid.

  • I was 28 when I had my DD, but we are not done. I hope to be around 31-32 with the next and then if we have a 3rd, around 35. My mom was 35 when she had me, so that seems normal to me :)

My DH's mom is significantly younger than my parents. She turned 50 last year and I could not believe it! I was 15 when my mom turned 50!! And be was 29! Talk about a difference.

  • I was 26 (I turned 27 9 days after he was born so I voted based on 27) but I am at least 8 years younger than any of our other friends from MOM groups.  I am not surprised that everyone is so much older than me because I think to be a SAHM your life has to be pretty established (finances, husband's career) to be able to support a family on a single income.  I've only run into a handful of other moms in my age range and for some reason we don't seem to get along as well as the other moms I've met.

  • I was 33 when I had DD (I turn 35 in a week).  However, I still want one more, but probably won't get pregnant until I am 36.

  • I just turned 31 and we'll be TTC our last child soon, so I'll be 31-32 when I deliver. So far I'm the only one of my friends to have a child, so I think of myself as very young to have kids.

  • I will be 30 in June and my due date is the middle of July. I am the youngest by a minimum of 5 years in my Moms group.

  • I turned 39 in January, the baby is due in July and this will most defintiely be our last child.  So, I voted for 37-40.  I am pleasantly surprised that it got 20% of the votes (the #2 answer right now).  I know women are having children much older these days, but overall, the moms on this board seems so much younger to me.
  • PS - Happy Birthday!
  • I was 32 with my DD and I'll be 33 when this baby is born in July.  (I'll be 34 at the end of July).  I realize I am "older" but, you cant help how things work out.  I do plan on having at least 1 more so my kiddos will be close in age.

I had my DD at 38, and we are going to start TTC again soon for our second LO this year while I am 39, so I will have our last LO at 40. So 39 sounds about right to me! :^)

  • I had just turned 28 (like a week earlier) when I had DD2, and we're most likely done.

But I am close to the youngest in my group of friends w/ kids, and in my mom's group of 50+. Most of the moms I know had kids starting around 30 and had their last in their mid-to-late 30s. All of my college friends are just now starting to have kids too, in their early 30s.

    PS - Happy Birthday!

    Thanks!

I'm only 37 but the effects of this pregnancy, especially the crippling back pain, are making me feel more like 73!

I can't imagine having had my children earlier in life, but I sure wouldn't want to do it too much past my current age, either. This is definitely my last child!

  • I'll be 24 when I have LO#3. I was 18 when I got pregnant with DS1 and am usually the youngest mom in the groups that we are in. However, I do have friends back home who had kids at the same age as I did.

  • We had our first baby when I was 31 and I will be 35 when this baby is due in July.  I know this is pretty average around our area but it feels quasi-old to me because my mom was 17 (!) when she had me, so what I grew up with is so different than how old me and my husband will be.  My mom was 36 when I graduated high school.  :)

  • I was 21 when DD was born and will be 23 when this baby is born.  We're definitely not done.  I expect to still be having babies in my 30s although I hope I'm done by 40.  Guess it just depends on if we have four or six and their spacing.

  • Had my first at 27, 2nd at 28. I will have my 3rd and last at 30. We will start ttc in a few months and I turn 30 at the end of this year. If it takes a year to get pregnant I'm going to be satisfied with 2. I dont want to get too far removed from the baby stage and start over.

  • I had DS at 26 and DD at 28. I had them a bit on the early side because DH is a little bit older than me.

Oddly enough, it is my DH, who is 36, that still has a living great grandparent. She just turned 100.

  • I'm almost 21 and my first is almost 1. However, I imagine (In our plan that's how it would work out, but we all know how plans go, so...) I will probably be in my mid-late 30's when I have my last. My sister, however, just had her first 6 months ago and she just turned 30. It seems more common these days for people to wait until their 30's to start having kids. My mom was 37 when my little brother was born. My Dh's mom was 37 when his little brother was born, too!

  • I had DS when I was 27. We are going to have at least one more (starting TTC this fall). Only a few of our friends have kids, most are VERY single.

  • I was 21 when DS was born, and will be a month shy of 23 when DS #2 arrives. We plan to have 4(MAYBE more) kids, and I'd like to be done by 30-35. I'm the youngest mom in my mom's group, though about the average age for where I grew up.

I think I am very young to be in my current stage of life. My DH and I had the same desires regarding beginning a family young, and I feel like that isn't the norm anymore.

  • There's a good possibility that this baby will be our last, so I'll be one month into 25. I got married when I was 22, had DS 1.5 years later, and we wanted our babies close in age. H turns 28 today so he's just a little older than I am.

We started early because we both felt ready, we wanted to be young parents, and it's really hard to have a career while moving around with H for his job so that wasn't standing in my way.

  • This isn't exactly an answer to the question so I didn't click the poll.

We only have our first and hope to have another, but I'm 28 and the only one of my pre-baby friends to have a child. The others are all focused on their careers and 3 out of 4 of my closest girlfriends got divorced in the past two years because "we're getting too old for starter husbands". So.... clearly their not at the stage in their lives where they'll have babies.
