with my first i never had my bag packed ahead of time. when i went for my 38 week appt and the doc said i needed to be induced that night for low amniotic fluid then i went home and gathered my things and returned to the hospital. i had a list of everything i needed, but i thought it was bad juju to pack it ahead of time. oh yeah, and my active labor only ended up being 45min---that was from 4cm to 10cm plus 13 minutes of pushing.
this time i have already started to collect my things due to my history of going so fast. I work in my L&D unit so i will probably have my bag in my car at 37 weeks in case i go into labor or my water breaks while working.
For this baby and last I had them packed b/w 36-37 weeks. At least gathering everything and having stuff set aside. I have everything packed and ready to go... just waiting for baby now.
I just finished packing mine and DH's tonight (minus the everyday toiletries).
Through the whole pregnancy all but one of the OBs I saw said it was highly doubtful I'd go early. I also live less than 5 miles from the hospital so if I need anything it's just a quick run home for DH/my mom/MIL.
As a FTM I didn't actually pack until 40 wks. We're 2km from the hospital. Went I went in for my non-stress test I sent hubby home to get it once I realized we were staying. This time I am way more organized as I"m worried about having to get DD1 to a friends before we go to the hospital.
With my first I don't think I had everything packed until we were scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks. I just for my bag packed and made a list of all of the last minute things we need to grab before leaving so we aren't running around in a panic if my water breaks, I am 36 weeks now. We live over an hour from the hospital so it kind of is making me nervous this time. And later this week I am installing the car seat and getting our extra pillows and a blanket in the car so we have a few less things to worry about
I got mine mostly packed this weekend, so 35 and a half weeks. I got the things I KNOW I need and my travel size toiletries. In the next few weeks I'll add the little things I think of along the way.
You really don't need a ton of stuff in your bag. The biggest are something to pull your hair out of your face (hair tie or head band) and brush, travel sized shampoo/conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste and something to wear out of the hospital. The rest are more like luxury type items that you may really like to have, but you wouldn't be in a really bad place without it. Some people may even be able to go without the shampoo/conditioner if they shower and wash their hair before they go to the hospital.
The things I REALLY liked having with me last time were my laptop, phone and charger, and snacks and drinks (I am/was allowed to eat during labor so I liked having some comfort snacks)
I packed up baby's stuff so far, only because I just washed everything. My stuff/DH's stuff, and stuff for my DS's - not so much. I have a list though!
Our Lamaze instructor suggested having the bag packed by 36 weeks, but we packed ours at 33 after I went into L&D with regular contractions at 32 weeks. As a FTM, I think we probably overpacked. Next time around we'll have a better idea of what we can leave at home and can probably pack much later because there will be less to remember and obsess over...
I made a list and started collecting stuff in one place last week. I'm using the bag I'll probably bring to the hospital for yoga class, so I won't actually put the stuff in the bag until I'm in labor (or it's otherwise time to go to the hospital).
I have mine partially packed....his stuff is all packed and i have a towel and my travel sized toiletries packed and i have a list of everything that needs to go in there that we are still using like chargers and stuff like that. but i will probably have my clothes and anything else done by 37 weeks.

I wil prpbably be completely packed by 33 weeks as my dr said I can go anytime after 34 weeks. I have a going home outfit for DD packed already I heard the hospital provides alot of stuff so trying not to over do it. I also packed my nursing tanks and a coupl pairs of pajama bottoms. I have travel size tooth paste etc. I [plan on getting.
