Let's talk jogging strollers!

So we have a graco stroller but as nicer weather approaches I like the idea of getting out with lo. I would like to sometimes jog with him, go on trails-walking, use the stroller for amusement parks-since sometimes you have to push over grass etc. From what I have read if you are a serious jogger you need a fixed front wheel but then the stroller doesn't work really for other things. There are some swivel wheels that lock but you can't run fast with these strollers-I think some of these might work for my pace. I have looked at the Schwinn strollers the most. I know bob is great but I am not willing to spend that much. Any thoughts or experiences?

  • I know you said a Bob is too much money, but there are really worth every penny.  They are such great jogging strollers or heck regular strollers too.

You should at least check your local craigslist for one.

  • My husband is a serious runner, so we did a lot of research related to jogging strollers.  As far as the fixed wheel, if you only plan to use it jogging on primarily straight paths, then absolutely get the fixed wheel.  If you want to use it for trails, grass, and jogging with turns, then I would consider getting a swivel wheel that fixes.  The fixed wheel is kind of a pain for uses other than jogging (my parents have a fixed wheel BOB that they found at a garage sale which we've compared to our swivel wheel)  The one thing you definitely want to look at is the type of tires.  Does it have hard stroller wheels or inflatable tires?

We ultimately went with the BOB, which I know you said was too expensive.  Consider looking at consignment stores and on Craigslist.  They are such high quality strollers, that the used ones I've seen are in great shape and have a lot of miles left in them.

We also looked at the InStep Safari AR245, Baby Trend Expedition, and the Schwinn Free Wheeler per Consumer Reports recommendations.

  • I would agree with the PP that the BOB is well worth the money and you can often find ones in great condition on Craigs List. I got mine at an end of year sale when the new models came out for 50% off the price. I use it as my primary stroller. It is so comfortable and smooth to push. Also the big canopy is awesome on sunny days and really even when it's raining. I have had my DD out for a walk and got caught in the rain, she didn't have one drop on her when we got home because of that huge canopy.

A friend of mine has the City Mini and she really likes it for day to day stuff but not for jogging. From what I understand they are pretty pricey as well.

  • I have a schwinn and I love it!  It has a built in rain shield and everything.

  • We have a BOB and love it!  Try to look now at the price as last years model should all be on sale right now for the new year model.  Also I got a 10 or 20% off at REI and used that for our BOB.  I know it is a lot of money but it is so worth it!
