This morning dh tried to give it to him and he said no, he tried putting it in some milk, no deal.
I tried encouraging him with various food rewards (ice cream, cookies etc), play rewards (go outside and play with your car together), wrapped toys I bought for potty training rewards, making a chart with places to check off each time he takes it for ten days to earn a trip to sea world or a ride on the train. Exposing to him how it will make his throat feel better.
Then my parents came over, my mom tried a bunch of ways finally telling him if he doesn't take it then the doctor will have to give him a shot and if he wants to stay sick he will need to get in bed and sleep since he won't be well enough to play. He said he would rather go to bed and did in fact climb in bed and go to sleep. I can't force him(nor do I want to) to take it since he just clamps his mouth shut. We tried also using the dosing spoon and a syringe. It is bubblegum flavored and our littlelest one seems to like it. What do I do?
Re: Help! Ds won't take medicine.
When all else fails, I put it in the syringe and put it in the back corner of her mouth. Keep a towel handy if they spit it out. Hubby holds her in his lap, I put it in her mouth then immediately put the towel over her mouth so she can't spit it out all over.
I am in the same boat. DD has strep / scarlett fever. Amoxicillin is her least favorite. I even used food coloring to change it pink to psych her out into thinking it was something that she liked but she said it smelled different. LOL
I asked my doctor today if they could just give her the shot of penicillin and she said they dont' even stock it anymore since pharmacies carry so many meds / dosages.
I hate rationalizing with DD to take her medicine.
