3rd Trimester

At what point do ya call??

I have been having a bad headache since 11am...I also was having pressure behind my eyes..Then I took tylenol and It made the pressure behind my eyes go away and I took a nap and when I woke up the headache was still there but not as bad..now the headache is coming back in full swing again. So I just took more tylenol. I am just worried because the Dr thinks I might have preeclampsia. I just had my blood drawn to see. And Thursday my blood pressure was high and I had protein in my urine.  Would you call or what and see if the headache goes away??

Re: At what point do ya call??

  • I would always call first.  Who cares if it's nothing.  Doctors are used to these types of calls anyway.  When in doubt, call.

  • I am in a similar boat. I know my doc would want me to call or go straight to OB triage for monitoring.
  • Last week I also had higher blood pressure and protein in my urine. My doc did baseline blood work and also has me doing a 24 urine catch. He said if I had pain in my upper right side under my ribs or any vision changes to call L&D.

  • YES!  I would definitely call right away.  I am also being monitored for high BP and risk of pre-e and she says every time to let them know if I have headaches, see spots, or have pain under my ribs.
  • I would definitely call. I had pre-e with DD and it's nothing to mess around with.

  • yup, I would call.  My OB told me that a headache that doesn't seem to go away with Tylenol and/or eye sight changes are a sign to come in.  Your BP could have gone up to a dangerous zone since you were last seen.

    I second this.

  • I'm not one to want to go in or call because I'm diabetic so every time I do, they want to admit me because I'm a brittle diabetic and that doctor wants to do over kill.

I would try drinking something with caffine in it first to see if that helps because caffiene is used as a pain killer. Also I'd be looking at what I ate the day before and see if there was any interuption in the pattern of things I was eating. Like if I didn't feel like eating a certain food or if I reduced how much I was eating or so on. Also are you getting enough fluids? Dehydration can cause things to be off.

As for high blood pressure, it can be stress related. I'm high risk, so I get it often. You can ask them to retake your blood pressure later in your appointment or at the end of it.
