similac sensitive for reflux vs. rice cereal?

anyone use similac sensitive for spit up for a baby with reflux?  we have been thickening with rice cereal but i wondered if that formula would be better. i left a message for the pedi but she said if i use that to still thicken with rice cereal. i thought the point was it already had rice starch in it to thicken?

  • I was wondering how old your baby is. My son has reflux and I have tried switching formula with no luck and really want to try adding rice cereal but I drive myself and husband with all the mixed reviews out there. Can you share your experience with the added rice cereal? Thanks so much

  • Our pediatrician had us try different formulas until we found one that the girls did well with. We started with Similac Advance, then tried Enfamil Newborn, then Enfamil Gentlease, and ended up with Similac Sensitive. Our experience with it has been that they are great 95% of the time, but then every 5 days or so one of them will have a day when they throw up 3-4 times. It's really weird, but it's better then them throwing up every day.

  • We have tried multiple formulas and now we are on the gentlease and we are also putting on the rice cereal in it to thicken it up
  • We have friends who use this (it's the green label one, right?) for their 2 month old son.  It is definitely thicker and they have noticed it has helped his spit up.

  • our boys are 10 weeks old..4 weeks adjusted though.  we tried the rice cereal before they started meds and i stopped cause they were constipated and i didnt notice a huge difference. now we are trying it again and it has helped a lot.  the meds helped most of their discomfort but they would still spit up larger amounts a few times a day with discomfort. now with the rice cereal that has mostly stopped and when they do spit up it's less and they don't seem to notice. they may be more gassy but are going to the bathroom fine so far.
