Frustrated with my body, weight loss stalled little vent

I know that other women will have had this experience. What are you doing to feel better about yourself?

I am 6 months post-partum, and I just don't feel like myself yet. During my pregnancy, I felt really comfortable in my skin-I worked out (hard!) right up until my due date, and I gained 27 pounds total. By 2 weeks post-partum, I had lost all but 3-5 pounds. I have stalled out at that point, however, and I just can't seem to get it together to lose the final bit of weight.

I am pretty "average" sized, if there is such a thing- I'm 5'5 and currently weight 141-143 depending on the day-wearing a size 8. Pre-pregnancy I was a size 6-8. I'm working out 3-4 times weekly for about an hour (classes at my gym, jumping rope, running, weights) but my diet is inconsistent. I don't overeat, but there are too many times during the week when I am exhausted and DH and I order a pizza, drink a couple glasses of wine, reach for another cookie, etc. I am working part-time (23 hours a week, plus commuting time) but also spending long hours searching for full-time work and doing prep work at home-I'm a teacher. Oh, and I have a 6 month old son:)

All the remaining weight has settled on my breasts and belly. I have always been a "voluptuous" shape-not really a skinny minnie, but I feel heavy and mad at myself for not having the willpower to be more consistent and get this remaining weight off.

I have always had body issues, and DH says he thinks I look great, but I feel frustrated and flabby. I don't know if it's just too soon post-pregnancy to feel completely my old self or what.

  • I didn't feel like "my old self" until DS was probably close to 1. I had lost most of the weight (I gained 65lbs!!) but still had the final 5 or so to lose to get back to pre-preg weight but my goal weight was 5lbs less than pre-preg. I stalled alot in losing the weight. It seemed like I would lose a few lbs quickly and then be stuck at that weight for weeks, then lose a few then stuck again.

I wish I had better advice but the only thing I can suggest is switch up your workouts a little. Try a different class maybe. Also maybe drink lots more water & cut out the wine (I love wine! I know its hard!) and tell your H you need his support and no more pizza! I had to be really strict to lose the last few. My MIL is a great cook but her food is not the healthiest so when we would go for dinner I would ask if she was making a salad, if not I would bring my own and just have a little of what she made.

    Good luck!

  • I never felt like myself after having ds and went into this second pregnancy feeling fat and out of shape--even though I trained for (hard!) and ran multiple half marathons and a full marathon between pregnancies. I always had a few extra pounds that I couldn't get rid of and I just felt gross.

Now, I'm due in a week and last night I decided to clean out our video camera so that the last three years (ds just turned three) wouldn't get lost in the shuffle of this new baby.  I was astounded by how good I looked post partum and wish I had cut myself a little slack. Seriously....there were a few videos that I didn't believe were me.  I looked like my old self--even though I've been convinced for the past three years that my body never snapped back. It did--I just didn't believe it.

Be kind to yourself. You work out hard, you work hard, you're a mom, you made a PERSON! I bet you look awesome. Keep up the great work.

  • you didn't gain that much weight so you should be proud. but honestly , if you watched what you ate during the week it would help with those final few pounds.  Sun-Thurs of every week,  we never eat out, i cook food (nothing processed) every night for dinner.  i am really strict with what goes in my mouth.  if you eat badly and still workout you will just maintain the weight.  I gained 70 lbs with DD!  barf!  i finally met my goal weight last month and going for a few more pounds and tightening that midsection.  I finally feel like myself again and DD will be 1 year next weekend.  it just takes time, i'm still wishing my muffin top would go away
