Pregnant after a Loss

Forcing the throwing up?

I know when you're hungover, if youre nauseous and force yourself to throw up you feel a thousand times better. My nausea comes in waves and this particular wave is really bad. Has anyone forced it? Or know if the nausea will lessen if you do? I absolutely hate throwing up, but if it'd make me feel better I think I might do it.

Re: Forcing the throwing up?

  • I tried that a couple of times with my m/s. Unfortunately in my case that never seemed to work. I would feel better for a couple of mins and then be right back to bad. It might be different for you, but I just know in my case it wasn't. Hopefully you find some relief soon!

  • Good to know... If it gets any worse I think it's inevitable. I can get a bit anxious when I feel like I'm going to throw up which only makes me feel worse.

I know this is supposed to be a good sign... But do all the good signs have to hurt and suck?

  • For me, it wasn't "forcing myself" it was just allowing myself to finally throw up. I would spend hours feeling like crap and doing everything I could not to throw up.  When I finally just relaxed and accepted that I was going to vomit, I would, and then I usually did feel better after that. However, I never had to do anything to physically make myself throw up though.

This.  I hold back at work and fight it.  When I get home, I just let myself get sick. I usually feel better for a bit, and then it comes right back.  I have never had to force it, when it comes, it comes.  I know it sucks, hang in there!

  • Ugh yes please someone tell me. My stomach is feeling so full and I'm so nauseated except I cannot for the life of me throw up. I just dry heave constantly. I was wishing and praying for this and now I got it. Blah.

  • Unfortunately, from what I've experienced, the crappy thing about pregnancy nausea vs hangover nausea is that you really don't feel a whole lot better after you throw up... At least I didn't. I might have felt a *tiny* bit of relief for a few minutes... But it always came right back. I do agree with what pps said about not forcing it, but allowing it to happen when your body needs to. I would never force myself to, but I learned that fighting it was no good either. Hope you feel better soon.

  • For me, in previous pregnancy and this one, it actually does help me a lot. Forcing myself to throw up, even if it's just bile, and dry heaving suck for a couple minutes, and then I feel way better. Everybody's different, I guess.

  • Thanks ladies for your input! I got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore and helped myself to throw up... It really didn't take much help since I was on the verge anyway. And like PP said, it was just a few dry heaves and a little bile... But I actually felt better! Then while I was in my little moment of non nausea I ate a little bit of real food and drank as much water as I could.

Tis morning I feel like I'm back at square one, but hopefully I can just keep the food and water going and not need to give a helping hand with my nausea.
