Where did/does your newborn nap? My 5 week old will only nap if worn: at first he would fall asleep being just held, we never put him down, and we alternated between wearing and holding. Now he can't even fall asleep unless he is worn. Not a huge deal now but is causing some anxiety for when I return to work. If you do/did lay your infant down for naps, did you swaddle?
TIA!
Re: Naps
DS loved swaddling hardcore. We swaddled him until 9 months when he started crawling (he was never a sleep roller, otherwise we would've stopped then).
He still sometimes, at 14 months, naps in a wrap (back carry these days). It is a handy thing to have in your parenting tool kit, though I understand not wanting to feel "trapped" into one single sleep strategy.
In the newborn days, I say do whatever works and don't sweat it. Your baby will change quickly and then you'll work something new out only to change again. But, I get the returning-to-work anxiety! When do you go back? Maybe we can share some reassuring stories with you.
More Green For Less Green
A thousand times, this! I wish someone had said this to me in the beginning. Don't really worry about developing bad habits until they're at least 6 months old or so. Things change so often, and (at least for me) it's all about survival for those first months.
I'd definitely give the swaddle a shot. We ended up using it waaaay longer than most people do, but for us it was the best thing to give DD the security she needed to fall asleep. I love the big muslin swaddling blankets, like Aiden and Anais.
