Which medicine?

DD is fine through the day.  Then around 5ish, she starts with a cough, sounds like a little chest congestion and a sore throat.  No fever.  Last night though, she woke up every hour crying, coughing and saying ow ow ow.  We had the humidifier running, had one of those Vicks plug in things plugged in, had the chest rub on her and had her propped up and nothing seemed to help.  I'm getting her ready for bed now but will most likely end up running to the store for some medicine, just have no clue what to get her.  Opinions?

Re: Which medicine?

  • We use Delsym with DD. It says for 4 and up, but she's close enough.  It seems to help her get some sleep at night.

  • A teaspoon of honey is just as effective as any OTC meds.

this. both my girls gag on honey and wilk not touch the stuff. i know they say it works as well or better, but from my experince with Dds, delsym worked way better. dd can sleep, which is huge. i only use it when thier cough is really bad and it lasts 12 hours so actually gets them through the entire night.

  • We use Chestal.  It seems to loosen up the congestion a bit.  And I would probably call the doctor to share the situation and see what they advise.
