I usually walk with DS and drop him off at daycare because it's nearby. The entire trip (from our house to daycare to work) takes about 45 min.
If I don't take DS I can bike to work in 10 min or walk in 25. If need be, I can drive in 5-15 min (5 with zero traffic, but 15 at normal rush hour times...yes, biking is faster.)
I live something like 1.3 mi from work. Daycare is about 0.2 mi from work.
We're moving in the summer and I'm taking a new job. I don't know what our new arrangement will be yet, but it will be nothing like this and I'm not looking forward to having to live a more normal life where I have a long commute, use a car more, etc....
ETA: I did not realize this was one of those post-each-thing-separately posts. I can't deal and won't follow rules, but I will answer the other questions.
I am a scientist and I'm going to be a professor next fall.
I like my job, but I'm looking forward to doing more teaching next year. What I love about my current job, though, is that the hours are SUPER flexible, which they won't be as much next year.
BUT, I used to work exactly 4 minutes from my house at the job I had when I had Jack. I would sleep as long as possible, and therefore would still get there late some days. lol

It takes me an hour to get to work (drive 2 miles to a train station and then about a 50-55min train ride).
I do bookkeeping and general office manager type stuff for a very small non-profit that focus on agriculture and conservation.
Sometimes the work itself it's that thrilling, interesting or great. But it's a really great group of people. I have the most understanding and flexible boss ever (she had her first baby 6 months before DS was born). I only work part-time (3 days a week, 6 hours each day) and a handful of hours from home.
So the long crappy commute isn't too bad since I have a lot of other perks at my job.
I work as a social services case manager at a nursing home. I basically do social work, but I don't have a formal social work education (my BA and MA) are in psychology).
I really like it.

I work as a dental office manager. I've been doing it for like 13 years. I like it pretty well, I will like it more after I get to know the patients more. I've only been at this office about 6 months-ish.

I'm a teacher and it usually takes me about 40 minutes to get to work (about an hour on the days I take M to daycare first). I love my job for the most part (but sometimes working with freshmen can be exhausting). I really love my winter, spring, and summer breaks!

I'm a SAHM, so I live at work.
BUT, I used to work exactly 4 minutes from my house at the job I had when I had Jack. I would sleep as long as possible, and therefore would still get there late some days. lol

I work about 45 minutes away by car. I take mostly back roads though, so it's pretty consistent. No highway traffic, which is great!
I am a teacher and I mostly like it, except when it gets super crazy or I have a lot of grading.
Will probably go into the court reporting field though when my SAHM time is up. Grafuated with that degree two years ago.
This just made my day. How can you argue with that?
