VBAC'ing a breech baby?

Sorry, I don't lurk on this board much, so I don't know if this has been discussed recently. Has anyone vbac'd a breech baby? Does anyone know what their MW's/Ob's/hopsital's or birth centre's policy is on this? With my first, I would've tried to vag birth a breech baby (it it was breech), but I don't know if I'd try to vbac a breech baby.

  • My guess is that you would have one heck of a time finding a provider to help with a VBAC breech.  I think you'll find a lot of hospital and practice restrictions against it.

I would try everything on https://spinningbabies.com/ to try to avoid that situation.

That's what I'm thinking too. I'm not even pg yet. Something just got me wondering today.

  • There are two OBs here in Denver that would do it and I bet a homebirth midwife would do it too.  My last was breech and I'm now 17 weeks and hoping this time's different, but I have looked into the options just in case.  Breech is so hard because you have to wait so long to know whether it's going to be an issue.  I am reminding myself that the chance a baby is breech is less than 5%, and although it's slightly higher if you had a breech before, it's still minimal.  Statistically, there's a greater chance you'll have a cesarean due to other issues.

ETA: I almost had a breech birth with my first because I was 9.5 centimeters when they are prepping me for the cesarean.  I remember their biggest concern (other than not being a practice that does a lot of breech deliveries) was that I was a first time mom so my pelvis width hadn't been "proven" yet.  Obviously that's a concern with breech because you don't want the body out and the head to get stuck.  So that may be an issue with a VBAC breech if you've never had a vaginal birth.  But that's just me guessing, nothing I've actually heard.

  • I would never, ever try to homebirth a breech VBAC.

Talk to your doctor but I'm guessing you'd have a pretty tough time finding a provider/doctor who would agree to try it.  But, if you're not even pregnant yet hopefully it's not something you'll ever have to worry about.

  • I'm pretty new here too.  Looking and lurking in prep for pregnancy #3.

But I had a scheduled c-section with DD2 because of her being breech after a failed external version and doing all the crazy things on spinningbabies.  My OB is very pro-VBAC but I can't imagine her doing a VBAC breech.
