I heard from the doc that is doing my retrieval which will now take place on Sunday.
She said I'm a "SUPER RESPONDER" and that spells trouble...
Today I now have 14 measurable follciles and tons of small ones, up from 9 yesterday mature/ish and my e2 is just under 4k. They are worried about OHSS and want the follicles out as soon as possible. This also changes everything else.
There will be no 3 day transfer. After the retrieval they will freeze what fertilizes and want me to go ahead, have a period, and then start oral estrogen to prepare for the transfer - in about 2 weeks, that will give my body time to 'calm down'
I will be honest with you, having only a few days to prepare that we were converting to an IVF had me in a slight panic because my control freak self didn't have the time to prepare myself for what was coming and now there's more coming that I REALLY don't feel prepared for. I had a full fledged panic attack that started on the phone with the doctor. Of course her use of the words "exceedingly ill" and "dangerous" "hospitalization" "not expected" didn't really help (not to mention the fact that I have a serious case of "White Coat Syndrome")
I just gotta make it through Sunday..
Re: Panic attack.."super responder"
Hi dear,
I can imagine how freaked out you are, but it is a PCOS thing. A lot of us are high responders, especially if you're under 35 and thin. I am going through IVF right now and we had to stop stimming because my E2 was rising so fast even though I only had 10 or so measurable follicles, the rest of the follicles were very small and too many to count. At my Egg Retrieval, they retrieved 49 eggs (32 were mature) and I ended up with moderate OHSS, but we still went ahead to do a 5 day transfer. My RE said the OHSS may get better because I had about 5 days to recover before the transfer. He also said the OHSS could get worse. I'm currently in my two-week wait, and so far things aren't too bad. I haven't gained much weight, I don't have difficulty breathing, and I haven't had to go to the hospital to get the fluid drained.
I know everyone is not the same, but you may end up not having any OHSS symptoms at all. Hang in there.

I'm going through a very similar situation right now. I'm waiting to get my E2 this afternoon but on Wednesday my RE told me there was a chance we we'll have to freeze everything and do FET later. I'm definitely not happy about it. I want my transfer next week! I think my ER will be Monday. So we're at almost the exact same point.
Hang in there and good luck!

Youll be ok! You have a very wise doctor who thinks about things in your interest. As disappointing as that is, its definitely best. My E2 levels were scary high as well and if i had triggered with HCG i would have been in the same situation. Luckily, he put me on the anatagonist protocol so I was able to trigger with Lupron to prevent OHSS but I was just as frazzled.
Everything went fine with my retrieval and transfer but now that I am going through HCG beta hell, Im wondering if any of this has to do with how high my levels were and not givng my body time to recover from the high E2 levels. I know I will never know but thing work out for a reason.
And think about it this way. FETs are way easier on your body and you wont have to worry about OHSS the next time.
Hang in there.
