When do you give your LO yogurt? Instead of or with fruit?
DS usually eats cereal and fruit for breakfast, fruit and veg for lunch, and cereal and a meat/veg mix for dinner.
When would I give it to him? And also, do you give puffs, cheerios, yogurt melts, crunchers, etc. with meals or at different times? TIA ladies!
Re: yogurt
I've only been giving DD yogurt for a few days now. I give her plain yogurt with fruit and cereal in the am.
As for the extras, puffs and mum mums are rare, not every day. Usually only when DH are eating and she already ate, (so as a snack I guess) not ever with a meal though.
Ah! I feel like I'm horribly behind on this whole solids thing! I am still doing only purees and haven't introduced any diary, wheat or meat. At our 6 month appt when I asked the peditircian about it she told me she doesn't like starting that stuff until 9 months.
Maybe I'm just being overcautious and a worry wart? haha. I DID get him yogurt melts last week and he loves those. I'm starting to introduce more finger foods too since he has as many teeth as a flippin' alligator now.
I usually give his melts separate than his meals...mainly to distract him when he is fussy and I need to get some things done! haha. I'm afraid to do cheerios though, I don't want him to choke (again...I am a worry wart!).
In terms of yogurt I was considering introducing it to him soon. Do you just do plain yogurt?? I would think about mixing it with a fruit puree so he will actually eat it. haha
You're not the only one. Our Ped said we can start playing with finger foods now and then at 8 months (which is today!) but they don't like introducing finger foods 'til 9 months either.
As far as yogurt goes, we give it to him usually in the morning mixed with fruit and/or oatmeal. Every once in a while I will do fruit and yogurt mix for lunch or dinner. I keep forgetting about those yogurt melts though! I'll have to try those soon!
When you say a tray of fruit or veggies, are they cooked soft or boiled? Or just raw? How small are you cutting pieces? I had over ripe pear I gave DS but even though he does good with his pincer grasp, he couldnt pick them up. I'm afraid to do raw.
I give a combo of cooked and raw, depending on the food. I basically serve it any way that I would eat it. I mostly do puff-sized pieces. Sometimes I provide bigger pieces (like sticks of cucumber), but I watch him even closer so he doesn't choke.
He is great with his pincer grasp (picks up peas and corn without even looking now), but sometimes the food will stick to the tray. I find that if I blot the food with a paper towel after cutting it, it is much easier for him to pick up. Still juicy on the inside, but less wet and sticky on the outside.
It is amazing how strong those little gums are. He has no teeth, but he can really mash up just about anything .... although I have found a few whole beans and corn kernals in his diaper.
