I'm 5 weeks and had my first prenatal appt. My Dr and I discussed the IPS tests and other possible tests. Has anyone had a CVS or amino? If so, what were your IPS results that made you do further testing?
I'm not sure what IPS is, but we did the NT scan early enough to make sure we had time to do a cvs if we wanted to. We only would have done cvs or amnio if the odds came back worse than the standard age-related odds already were. We ended up getting great odds from the NT (in siggy), so opted out of anything more invasive.

All of this. I have enough stress in my life just BEING pregnant so regardless of age, I decided I would not do anything invasive unless it was deemed necessary.

First time I was pregnant age 37 we just did the NT scan and got great numbers so we left it at that
This time we did the NT scan, got great numbers then went in for the second tri anatomy scan - there were some concerns over the ventricles in the brain, had the quad test come back with some bad numbers. Got sent to the Peri and she scared the heck outta us so we did the Amnio. Normally I am the person who lives by it is was it is - but this time I was just so worried that we did the amnio to get answers and to be prepared with a plan at birth just in case.
Amnio came back just fine - but my amnio was an awful experience that I don't ever, ever want to do again.
I think evey situation is different and you just have to go by what you think is best at the time.
I had the NT Scan (in the States they automatically do the bloodwork with this) as early as possible. My husband and I decided that if the numbers weren't as we hoped we would have CVS, and if the numbers were great, then we'd do amnio. I'm 38, and felt that the NT Scan does not catch enough of the cases to enough rate of certainty, that I would be comfortable with the NT Scan alone.
As it turns out the NT Scan numbers came back excellent, and so I went ahead with amnio. The place that did my amnio was fantastic, and the procedure itself was nothing - it didn't hurt and it was over in less than 2 minutes. I followed instructions for bed rest, etc and now we know for sure that we are having a healthy baby girl! We're very excited.
Last pregnancy I did only the NT scan, but at the time I was 34. Even though it's only been a few years, there's a large statistical difference, which is why I opted for the amnio this time. I hope that helps!

IPS = Integrated Prenatal Screening
It involves the NT scan along with the results of 2 blood tests. That's what it's called here in Canada I guess.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm scared to death of having an amio. It wasn't that bad? Some women have said it was horrible.
Congrats on your results and on finding out you're having a girl!
