What to do about poop training?

My son is 32 months old and i started potty training him last week. He is doing well with peeing on the potty but not pooping. He wears underwear all day except when we go out (pull-ups) and at nightime he wears a regular diaper. He is good about telling me when he wants to pee and i take him and he usually does it BUT he refuses to poop. He keeps refusing to sit on the potty when he feels the urge to poop and i somehow get him to sit but then after a few minutes asks me to put a diaper on him so that he can poop in it. I gave in a couple of times because he seemed constipated and looked like he was in pain. He does poop once he wears the diaper. What should i do? Anybody else been in a similar situation?

    Bribe him.  No, seriously, my DD didn't have an issue with pooping so I didn't make a big deal out of it but when her potty training is not going well, I bribe her with small Disney figures or Hershey's kisses.  It gets her back on track in no time.

    When my DD was potty training she wouldn't poop on the potty either. She was completely pee trained but asked for a diaper to poop. At first we really encouraged her to use the potty, put her on it, told her she could do it, etc. and it completely made her constipated. We ended up having to use Miralax for months to get her regular again! When we realized it was causing her to be constipated, we just let her use a diaper and didn't say a thing about it. Eventually I bought some special books ( she loves books) that could only be read if she was trying to poop on the potty but we didn't make a big deal out of it because we didn't want to stress her. This actually worked and she started pooping on the potty and has not had an accident or used a diaper since then. It's probably been about a year. We're actually having the same issue with DS now where he'll pee in the potty but not poop. He just poops in his underwear. I really wish he would ask for a diaper! If I was you, I would just let him use a diaper for now. Eventually he'll figure it out and start using the potty.
