Hi all- I haven?t been on thebump in months but am here to say hello!
And, to ask about toddler weights. I know all children are different and it depends on genetics among many other things..I still would like to know if my toddler is really the only one that could possibly weigh 31 lbs at 17 ? months old.
How much does your son or daughter weigh?
My doc says hes almost off the charts but that there is nothing to worry about. I still have to wonder if I?m doing something wrong or if just his genes (dad is tall, we were both super chubby babies that grew out of it as adults). I am super health conscious so I know the food I am feeding should be ok?hmmm, thoughts?!
Re: Toddler weight, mine is off the charts
Mine was 35 pounds at 17 months...guess what, she's still in that ballpark at 27 months.
Don't worry mama, I know that my hubs was sweating in, I just fed her regular stuff (nothing too crazy, she's just packed it on..)and now she's just solid muscle and whip thin. (comparatively)

My ds was and continues to be in the 99th percentile - and that was my pedi being kind (his words). My son is just big. Then my daughter is at the other end of the spectrum at the 10th percentile. I feed the kids the same food - they just have different metabolisms.
This is the way I say it to people- you know the easter bunny chocolate? Some are hollow and some are solid chocolate, right? My son is the solid easter bunny and my daughter is the hollow version.
When you pick my son up, he feels like he's totally solid- he's so heavy. But he eats less than my daughter. The pedi just keeps saying not to worry. We actually switched pediatricians (we moved to a different town) and so I basically got a 2nd opinion on my son's size. His reaction is the same. Don't worry, cut back on sugary foods and instill good eating habits so when he's older and big, he'll make good food choices- i.e. he'll choose fruit over candy. That kind of thing - which- at your son's age, isn't even an issue yet. Just keep feeding him good foods and he'll grow at the pace he's supposed to grow- for him and his body.

don't worry about the weight - just whether your toddler is tracking within the same percentiles on the charts. If he was always at the top of the charts, and still is - that's perfectly fine! However if they move up a few percentiles in a short space of time, you may have some issue you need to address. Most likely its just genes & you have done nothing wrong!! No need to worry about weight if your doctor isn't worried
Big dude here, too!
At his 18 month appt he was 30 lbs 2.5 oz and 34.5 inches tall!
After quite a bit of effort, we have finally managed to get Kennedy to the 20lb mark so, obviously, we are at the other end of the scale.
That being said, I don't think you have a lot to worry about. As others have posted, everyone's child is different and, if your doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be either. (I know ... easier said than done.)
30.8 pounds at 15.5 months. 31.5 inches we think. Totally off the charts in weight. She doesn't eat a crazy amount of food so I don't get it. I expect her to drop some weight when she starts walking.
Regardless, our pedi isn't worried so I am trying not to either. We were told to switch to 2% milk instead of whole however.
DD is similar. She was born at 36 weeks (5lbs 9oz) and has always been small. At 18 months, she is 18.5lbs and 30in.
DS2 was born at 10 lb, 10 oz, and he was 21 lbs by six months. He's now almost 17 months and 27 lbs (so, he started out off the charts, and is now in the 75% or so). DS2's doctor told me once that weight and height for the first 18 months are more reflections of interuterine conditions (as opposed to if they are too heavy for their age).
If you are worried, I would make sure he's filling up on good fats (meat, fish, butter, whole milk, etc) and protein before carbs or sweets.
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
DD2 was 27 lbs and 34 1/4" at 18 months. She actually dropped down to 85th percentile for weight (was 95th previously) since she runs everywhere now. Height was 95th or so.
DD1 was 25 1/2 lbs and 35" at 18 months. She's now 48 lbs and 48" at 5.5 years.

I have a friend whose 22 mo old (she's a week older than Dylan) is 36 lbs. She thinks it is funny her DD weighs as much as a 4 yo.
My son is 20 months and weighs 23 pounds 4 oz. He has been in the 5-10 percentile for weight and 70 percentile for height since birth.
I think most of a toddler's weight is genetic disposition... so I would not worry at all if your doctor is not.
Just like we are not worried about our son who is very thin. He is very healthy and sounds like your son is too:)
Uh... my almost 1 year old is at least 27 lbs (guesstimating using our crappy bathroom scale) and about 34.5 inches tall. He started out as a peanut, but since 4 months, he's been in the 90+ %ile for weight and off the charts for height. So, he spiked at 4 months, but he's been steady ever since.
He's thin and tall and has a freakish amount of muscle. We're buying him 18-24 months and 2T clothes now. They're a little big around the waist, but the length is perfect. His 1st birthday is next weekend.
His doctor isn't concerned at all. They like to joke that we're going to need a Costco/Sam'sClub/BJ's membership to feed him when he's a teenager. They won't officially estimate height until 2 yrs, but they get the feeling that he's going to be big.
