I'm sure this seems obvious to everyone on this board, but please remind your husbands, families, and friends as well. We discovered this past weekend that DH was given the wrong medication in his prescription bottle in January, so he's been taking something not prescribed to him for two months.
Thankfully, it hasn't caused any harm and he is fine. We're waiting on a final call back from a nurse to find out for sure, because the medication he was taking is not intended to be taken by men, so there is very little research on how it affects them.
The back story might get a little long, but it's actually SAIF-related and (now that we know he's fine) I almost have to laugh: the pharmacy gave him P.rometrium!
DH had a sleep study done recently and while he doesn't officially have sleep apnea, the specialist gave him an rx for P.rovigil, an amphetamine, to help with his tiredness. The rx was filled on 1/2/12 and he's been taking a few a week on days that he thought he might be tired.
Last weekend I was getting something off the top shelf in the bathroom (that I can hardly reach and never use - DH does the cleaning in there too) and the pill bottle caught my eye. I thought - why on earth did DH steal some of my P.rometrium? I took it down and compared it to my pills (that I got on 1/17/12) - they are the same, despite what the label says.
As soon as DH walked in the door I held out the bottle and said, "What is this?"
DH: "Those are my P.rovigil, from the chest medicine doctor."
Me: "No, they're not. These are P.rometrium, which is what [OB] prescribed for me when I got pregnant."
DH: "You are messing with me. I've been taking those for two months. They're yellow and taste kind of sweet."
Me: "I wouldn't know; I take them as a vaginal suppository."
DH: "You are messing with me! No wonder they haven't been working. Hey - I actually have been feeling pregnant!"
The bottle actually has a tag that says that his pills should be a scored, white capsule with different markings, but he never bothered to read it. Trust me when I say that none of us will be making that mistake again.

The same thing just happened in my area. Kids who were supposed to be getting flouride pills were instead given a breast cancer drug that would be similar to chemotherapy!!!!!!
I guess they put the wrong pills in the bottle because it has been going on in this pharmacy for 2 months and it has affected multiple children. I believe in this case the pills look very similar but obviously are VERY different.
