Not sure LO likes the carrier - Help please!

My LO loves to be held so I thought she would love being in a carrier but it doesn't seem to be working for us. I have a K'tan but didn't  start using it right away because she was less than 8 lbs at birth. I tried the kangaroo carry a few times and she never seems comfy.  She did fall asleep one time, but she's usually fussy once I put her in it.  I think maybe she gets too hot in it.

Next I tried the Beco Gemini and butterfly. I plan to keep only one but wanted to try both. DD is 12 weeks and 11 lbs now.  I didn't want to deal with a separate insert so I didn't get the Ergo. She doesn't seem to like the butterfly at all.   Both times I tried it, she cried the whole time. I've had better luck with the Gemini but she still gets fussy and doesn't seem comfy.

I see so many glowing reviews for the beco and K'tan. If you have one and love it, did your LO like it right away? How long does it take for LO to get used to it? Any tips for trying out the carrier?  I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong or if my baby just doesn't like the carrier.  TIA!

  • Are you doing something after she's in the carrier? Go for a walk. DS would never tolerate me just sitting or standing around, but if I walked or did chores, he'd usually fall asleep in a few minutes or else just watch happily.

Thanks for the suggestion!  I tried to do things around the house with the K'tan but haven't done as much while wearing the beco.

This. And are you doing legs in or out? The only reason to froggy legs is for baby's comfort. S never tolerated that, so we went legs out from the beginning.

Her legs are out but seemed uncomfortable in the butterfly. The narrower seat in the gemini definitely seems better.

  • Not all LO's like carriers.  DD hated ANYTHING but facing out (not terribly ergonomic for her OR mom), until she was old enough to do a back carry.  Keep trying, periodically, and over time, as she develops, you'll likely find some combination that works.

  • DD hates our K'tan in the kangaroo but put her in the hug and she;s the happiest baby in the world. Idk why but that's the way it is with us.
