CD'ing vs. Disposables - which is better for the environment

There is a discussion going on on another board I frequent about this. Please help give me the resources to join in the discussion. I know my cloth is better but I need articles, etc.

 DD just got up so I don't have time to sit down and find the research myself. I know it's been discussed on here before so even if you could link me to other posts that would be great!

    realdiaperassociation.org is a great resource! Obviously CD biased, but they at least have the studies listed to back up the facts that they give. It's also hard because if people research many of the studies that say that cloth diapering is "worse" or even just as bad, a lot of it can be traced back to studies funded by the larger companies that own Pampers, Huggies, etc. Cloth diapering in general is built from small companies right now, none of which can support the kind of studies and research that would be needed to compete with those that the larger companies are able to afford - so it makes it really hard to find equal info to support both sides of the fence. I think it's also hard because, like in any discussion that's parenting related, everyone is just trying to do what they can in a busy day and trying to do the things that they think are best for their baby and family.

    Without articles, I think the basics that the energy and water used with cloth is and can be from renewable resources, as opposed to diapers, that once used, are here to stay (pretty much).  There's nothing reusable (or renewable) about that.

    Also, many of the pro-disposable articles I've read emphasize the chemicals and energy that go into cotton production for CDs, but seem to disregard the fact that consumers buy a few dozen of these diapers, compared to several thousand disposables... so, IMO, there is no comparison between the energy and resources used to make each type of diaper.

    I found this yesterday and thought it was pretty neat. An eco-hippy spin instead of a disposable diaper manufacturer's spin on the research. Good luck with the debate. :)
