kolcraft double strollers

i'm looking for an everyday, double tandem stroller for my twins. I've found two kolcraft strollers that are over $100 in price difference.  what are the differences between these strollers?  other than color (solid red vs red with polka dots sunshade), i cannot find the difference.  one says it's an optima https://www.albeebaby.com/contours-optima-tandem-stroller-berkley.html and the other is listed as an "options" https://www.albeebaby.com/kolcraft-contours-options-tandem-ruby.html stroller.

does anyone have either?  what are your thoughts????

  • I think it's just a difference of fabric.  One also might be more cushiony than the other.  I don't own one, but I've heard it's crazy heavy....like 50lbs or something ridiculous like that.  So just make sure you have the strength to lug it in and out of your car.  Otherwise I think it's ok, what's cool is that it can take carseats and the seats are reversible.

  • I have this stroller in tangerine...we first did the DSNG, then I bought a Baby Jogger City Mini double - LOVE IT!!!....but, it was hard to maneuver in and out of clothes racks at the mall, so I started searching for a tandem to use when we shop.  Well...I ended up with a Kolcraft.  While it is VERY functional (love how you can have different seating options), like PP said - it is VERY heavy and bulky.  It is fine when you go to a mall and only have one stop because each time you have to take the seats off of it to fold it up and put it in the back of my suburban.  To me it would be a PITA to have to do this several times if you are in and out running errands...not sure that helps at all, but that's what I've found to be the case for me.  I'm now looking for a lightweight tandem (but my DH would kill me if he knew!)

The Optima is the new model. The red options model is 2 or 3 years old I think. I have the Optima and LOVE it. Honestly, it isn't that heavy. It's 20-something lbs (either 25 or 27 I think).

Stalk Amazon and watch the prices. At one point last year, they had the Options available for $100.

  • I looked online and the Options is 40 lbs. and the Optima is 36.8 - so not a whole lot lighter...not sure if that 3 1/2 pounds is worth the extra $100...just my opinion...

  • The Optima has cup holders for the kids.  Also I know some have an aux. jack, not sure about the Optima you posted though.  I have the blue Options, it's a year or so newer than the red.  If you have the seats face each other you don't have to take 1 seat off to fold it up.
  • The Options in tangerine has cupholders and an auxiliary jack.  I watched Amazon for quite a while and found it for $199 - now it's $249.

Thanks for the tip!  I didn't know you could fold it up with the seats on!

When you fold the stroller with the seats on, make sure that the umbrella on the seat closest to the handle bar is NOT behind the handle bar (hopefully that makes sense).  It took me a few times to figure out just how to position everything.
