Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Stubborn belly fat; how to lose it?

It has been three and a half months since I had my baby boy and I'm discovering that it is extremely hard to lose the belly even you're 20! Before I got pregnant I was always conscious about my weight and being healthy and was able to do portion control and deny myself the cravings but after nine months of letting myself eat whatever I wanted (minus the dangerous stuff) it is like I lost all my will power to stay away from foods like chocolate and baked goods! And since I'm breastfeeding I'm still eating for two and I'm not sure when I should stop eating. So, basically I'm gaining weight again because of cravings I can't seem to say "no' to. Help!

Re: Stubborn belly fat; how to lose it?

  • It took me a full 6 months to get back to normal with my 1st baby... I was BF'ing too and not working out or watching what I eat. I was thin pre-PG and lost all the weight but things were a little different!

    Give yourself some time!

And the only thing that I found gets rid of belly and love handles is quitting sugar - like candy, sweets and desserts. I'm struggling with quitting it right now - I'm eating oreos as I type :) Maybe see if your DH or a friend will get healthy with you and stay away from the junk? It's hard to do it alone!

  • I've always heard it takes 9 months (10 really) to make your body that way and that you should allow yourself 9 to get it back. I lost all my prego weight, all my clothes fit again but like pp said, "things are different" I hate to say it and even worse hate to believe it but things may never look the same again. GL!

  • Like PP said, it takes 9 months to gain and 9 to get back to where you were. I lost all my pregnancy weight by 3 months, but even though things fit, everything is still a little "squishy"

I recently started just trying to watch what I eat more. I'm nursing too and there are times I find myself really hungry - especially at night after I nurse and even in the middle of the night. But, I try really hard to have smarter snacks. It's helped a little, I think!

    Good luck!

  • Yikes!  Things weren't fabulous before! 4 months out, and I'm nervous.  Having a baby right before the holidays and put on bed rest afterward was not helpful...

  • I'm 5 1/2 months post preggo, and I have been trying SOO hard!  I've been watching what I'm eating and exercising.  I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight, and my pants fit, but I have a lot of extra squishiness around my mid section.  You're not alone, OP!
