not so great ob appt

I was officially diagnosed with GD tonight.  I have to call the ob nurse in the am to set up a consult to learn a bunch of stuff, and set up an appt with the nutritionist.

She wants to put me on a minimum dose of insulin only 1x per day, right at bedtime. She said it's such a low dose it's called a placebo dose.  I was freaking out nervous, because after witnessing my mom's battle as a diabetic, i got scared when i heard the word "insulin", but she assured me that it is not a severe case, and not to worry, that it is such a low dose, and i just have to be monitored more.

She wants me in next week for another u/s, and i get to do a 3/4d one!! So at least that's something to look foward to. and then i have another follow up the following week, so it looks like i'll be seeing a lot more of my ob LOL

any other GD ladies, how did you respond to insulin over night?

anyways, so that's my most recent update! and to top it off, i FINALLY gained weight...1lb! LOL a total of 2lbs this whole pregnancy LOL i am definitely not complaining, but i'm sure a lot can happen these last months!

    Sorry about the GD. Hopefully they'll help you manage it well so there are no issues. 

    I'm impressed about the 2lb total weight gain. I've already gained 12lbs and I'm not even halfway yet!

    I'm sorry that you got diagnosed with GD.  But yay that you get to see LO more!

    3/06 - m/c 1st baby at 6 weeks 
    5/06 -2nd baby had no heartbeat at 14 wks.
    D&E - Bled out. Blood transfusions. Week in ICU - Cheated Death!
    Diagnosis: Blood clotting and bleeding disorder, immune issues, & cervical stenosis
    5/10 - 1st IVF cycle - BFN
    FET - 10/12/10 - BFN
    1/11 - IVF with PGD - BFN
    IVF - May - BFN
    6/11 New RE - fingers crossed!
    9/11 - IVF - 4 transferred
    10/13 - BFP!!
    It's a boy! Clint Michael, Due in June!!!

    Thanks V :)  I may definitely have questions after i talk to the nurse today, i think the ob said 4 units of N...i have to call the nurse this morning to get all the info together, and meet with her to learn stuff.  I'm pretty familiar with it all though, my mom was a very brittle diabetic, so i'm familiar with how to use things, but things are always different when you have to worry about yourself doing things lol

    my ob was funny, she was like are you ok giving yourself injections....i told her, did she remember how i got pregnant? lol

    i'm not so nervous of the needles again, i could care less, i'm just nervous about how my body will respond to the insulin.

    It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

    I had GD (controlled with diet) almost had to do insulin just at night but somehow my numbers didn't come up enough (enough times to require that). The diet itself is no problem except when you want "chocolate cake" <: I've heard the good thing about eating like this is it's easier to lose PP. I'm not sure because I've never been pregnant before this but I'm 11 days out (also pumping for my twins), I had gained 40lbs with the pregnancy and am already down 28lbs!! So maybe it really does work <: Plus the high protein, low carb ( not many empty calories) is good for the baby!

    I'm so sorry about the GD Dx. I'm sure they'll get a great plan in place for you to help manage it.

    And how cool that you get to do a 3/4d u/s!!!

    Oh boo, sorry to hear about the GD and having to take insulin.  No fun.  But congrats on the big weight gain Wink  I can't believe you're 27 weeks and only 2 lbs up!

    I'm sorry about the GD, but the 2 lb weight gain is amazing!   That is something to be proud of.

    thanks worms :)  she just said the pain/pressure is from baby moving downwards, and growing, nothing to worry about yet!
