At what age, and what weight/size, is it inappropriate to...

Wear a two piece swimming suit?  Ready... set... go!

Re: At what age, and what weight/size, is it inappropriate to...

  • This is mostly one of those "in the eye of the beholder" things, IMO. If you're comfortable in your skin, I think it's ok.

  • My mom is almost 50 and rocks a bikini...my stepmom sticks with a tankini though.

I don't think there's a specific age or weight because all bodies are different! I personally wouldn't because I'm wayyy too overweight.

  • What kind of 2 piece suit are we talking about?

Some tankinis cover more than a one piece. Not to mention, most one piece suits are flattering on approximately no one.

    LOL!!

  • I rocked a bikini the summer after Wyatt was born. I didn't feel great, but I didn't look bad. I was about 125. Last summer I was back down to 115lbs so I rocked out a cuter more flattering suit. I'm 26 and 5'3. This summer I hope/will be more toned and I'll rock the same suit.

I do see plenty of women wear bikinis who shouldn't. I wore a 2 piece while pregnant.

  • No given age/size. People should just have some sort of sense while getting dressed.

There are 50 year old woman that look way better than me at 29.

  • I'm a size 16/18. My suit is a two piece, not a bikini by any stretch, but a little skin shows between the top and the bottoms. I can't wear a one piece, because of the lack of bust support that most one pieces have. So, I hope my age (25) and confidence level makes up for my size / pallor. :P

Wow, so many things wrong with this picture. But the top question that comes to my mind is: What is wrong with the old lady's boobs??? They look fake, but really saggy.. and very far apart.

  • DD wore one at just over a year when we went on vacation to the carribbean.  It was freaking adorable.  It's not like it's a string bikini with push-up bra!!

Skin ages, stretches, wrinkles, changes colors and shapes and size. Silicone... doesn't.

  • If you can't see the bikini bottom because your dunlap belly done folded over and covered it, then it's time for a tankini or one piece.

  • I had this debate with myself before we went to florida this winter. I ended up buying a bikini because my DH fully encouraged it. Now that I'm older I honestly don't care if anyone thinks I look bad. DH liked it, and I felt comfortable. I have a tankini and shorts I wear if I'm doing anything "active" like swimming or running around. But for laying out in the sun (fully sunscreened of course) the bikini is great.

  • I say as long as you're comfortable in it, go for it.  DD will never be allowerd to wear one though.  Ever.

  • I've never had a bikini body, ever, even when I was dancing 2-3hrs a day 6 days a week and at my lowest weight. I just don't get that level of muscle tone to feel I can rock it (we'll see what P57 and C25K does this year though; there's always a first time for everything).

And are we talking American standards? Because in Europe women can be pretty darned confident and use bikinis no matter what age or shape.

  • I turn 30 next month.. my weight is at my norm, but thanks to DD's c-section and comfort, my bikini days are dunzo.

I am going to go with the unpopular opinion here and say that the more overweight a person is, the more coverage there ought to be on the swimsuit.  Tankinis are fine, obviously, but whenever I see a very overweight woman at the beach in a tiny two-piece, even if she's confident, it looks terrible.  Rock the body you HAVE, don't pretend you have something else.

Also I think that if you're 50 or 60, it's time to put the string bikini away.  Two pieces or bikinis that are a little bit more modest are fine though.

  • If you are too fat to wear a bikini, you shouldn't be at the beach. You should be at the gym.

  • I think wear whatever you feel comfortable/confident in. There's def not an age limit--I look better at 34 than I did at 20.
