1 down. 1 to go!

Marinas abdominal ultrasound came back normal! Eeeek! Now we just have to wait for her MRI at the end of march. She couldn't nurse for 3.5 hours before this test and she was miserable. With the MRI she can't nurse or eat anything for 8 hours! This is going to suck! She's going to have to be put to sleep because she is out of the "eat and swaddle" age :o( double suck!

  • They'll let a baby go that long with out eating during the day?  That may make for a loooooong night.

  • I wrote a post about it but its been a while. When we went for her 6th month check up I pointed out to the pedi that her big stork bite on the back of her head had been dry and felt a little raised so she started looking at it and at her growth chart. She noticed her head was in the 95% and referred me for a CT scan without saying much. I didn't want to put marina through all that radiation so I took her to a neurologist instead. He said usually they don't do any tests unless the head is at the 98% or above or if the baby has some developmental delays but the combination of the larger head size and the hemangioma (stork bite) he wanted to run tests. I guess the hemangioma could go inside her head and not just on the skin and that could put pressure on the brain. She would most likely be showing some signs of developmental delays if that were the case but he still wanted to be sure. I think its mainly just a precautionary thing but still stressful putting her through that :o( The test is at 9am so for a lot of mommies they could just give an extra big bottle before bed time but marina still wakes up every two hours to nurse after her first big stretch no matter how much she eats going to sleep. it will be a looooong night. She will be sedated for the MRI and that can last for up to 8 hours so we will both get some rest then :o(

  • I remember you talking about that before.

Glad to see things are looking ok. Does she seem to be developing on track so far?

It is so hard watching your LO be sedated. Tim had to go under when he was a newborn.

  • Good luck. I remember you posting about this before. I was going to ask you if you could schedule it for first thing in the morning, but I saw that she wakes every two hours in the morning. At least she will sleep for the first stretch of the 8 hours. I hope that everything works out. Please keep us updated. BTW, it is nice to see you on this board. I believe that I remember you from the single parent board, even though I only posted a few times. I am not sure what your situation is, but it is nice to know that I am not the only single parent. (Not that I am happy you are single. This soooo came out the wrong way.)

  • Hi!  Smile Sorry Marina's stork bite is causing some concerns. I hope it ends up being at the surface only, and that sedation goes without issue. That's a tough thing for a Mama.

Poor thing!  KT MRIs are really easy on babies, just hard on mamas.  I was freaking the eff out during C's but she slept through it.  Did they tell you why she couldnt eat?  I fed her right before, but it was an emergency MRI so that may be the difference.

Glad to hear, other than the MRI, her health is good.

I think she has some stiff competition with Mason. I LOVE those pictures!!! I used to post here aaalllll the time but stuck to the singles board for a little while with just commenting here. My situation is actually fairly similar to yours. :o/ and it is good to have another single mama here even though I wish we didn't have to be!

They didn't give me specifics but Im assuming it has something to do with the sedation and needing an empty stomach incase she has a reaction and vomits or something. Thats my "discovery health channel" type of guess. She said they are very strict so even if I sneak sips of water or something they won't take her.
