for a baby to repeat the same sounds over and over? Like right now, A has been practicing this kind of "heyolayalay" sound for awhile. He says it for like, a straight five minutes. Just trying to see if anyone else experiences this, or if I'm now just looking for developmental problems.
ETA: Ok, found this actually: The majority of children babble in rhythmic way, which is actually mimicking the pattern of our language. Later, they copy sounds, words, and eventually phrases and sentences that they hear adults use in specific, repetitive contexts.
Makes me feel better, but would still like to see if your LO's do it
Re: Is it normal at this age...
Anthony did this with "done". He has said "alllll daaaah" for all done, for a long time, but once he finally mastered "done", he would go around just saying "donnnnne", "donnnne", "donnnne"...over & over & over - like he was proud that he perfected it, lol.
DS doesn't do it that often, but I just got an e-mail today (I get these weekly parenting e-mails) about how kids this age often do super repetitive things with their speech.
ETA: actually, DS does do this, with "uh-oh." He'll often say it, and then repeat it a ton of times, with increasing emphasis.
Yep. DS does a "lalalalala" sound over and over again. It's really over-exaggerated and he pretty much sticks him tongue out the whole time.
He must just think it sounds cool or likes playing with his tongue and teeth.
Haha! Totally this!!! We'll say 'mama' and he laughs and says 'dadadadadadaaaaa' and laughs again...all day long lol
Wait, when did you come over to my house?
