Pre-School and Daycare

How Far is your Preschool?

I am trying to find a preschool for DS. Most of the good schools are about 30 minutes away. I am worried about trying to get him to and from school since we are thinking of having a new baby. I imagine it will be hard to transport a newborn every day for a total of an hour's car ride. How far is your child's preschool from your house?

  • 7 minutes but it's the opposite direction of my work :( Was perfect at my old job when I drove past there twice a day.

  • About 20 mins depending on traffic.  DD goes 1/2 days so it's 2 40 minute round trips a day.

  • Five minutes. I have a new baby and I would hate to have that long of a drive (it would actually be 2 hours in the car, since the baby has to go to and from the school for drop-off and again for pick-up, assuming you're going back home in between).

  • The first preschool I sent DS1 to was about 30 minutes away, he went there for 2 years.  We then transferred him to a preschool at the YMCA and it's less than 10 minutes from our house.
  • Less than ten minutes from our house.

  • About two minutes by car. When the weather was nice in the fall, I would bike there and back with the girls in our bike trailer.

  • Right now, we live about 10 minutes away from DD's school.  Thank God for that! We used to live about 10 more minutes from where we are now but the drive would take close to an hour each way because of traffic.  There were even times when traffic would be so bad, I'd turn around and go back home.  The move in to town has made a HUGE difference; everything from stress levels, to gas savings and travel time have all improved.

  • We live in the city and have at least a half hour bus ride to get to her school.  It has taken as long as an hour on the way home.  It is about 3.5 miles from our home.  For us, it was an easy choice as our neighborhood had no appropriate setting for her and she is very happy at this school.

I will have a newborn next year, and will bring her along for drop-off and pickup.  You do what you are comfortable with, and for us, this school was the best option.

  • Ours is about 25 minutes depending on traffic. We weren't happy with any of the schools around us so we chose to send her to the one we thought was the best fit for us. My dh takes her two days a week on his way to work and then either my mom, MILm or myself picks her up. Totally worth it IMO. I think of it the same way I think of our doctor choices. I don't go to a dr near my house just bc it is closer. I choose our drs on how good they are even if we have to drive further away.
  • 15 minutes.  We carpool with a neighbor so I drop the girls off and my neighbor picks them up.  That helps!

  • It is about 25 minutes from our house.  About 2-3 minutes from DH's office about 10 minutes from mine.

  • I purposely chose close to my work because I would be doing pickups/drop offs, and we live a half hour away from work.

So DD's preschool is literally less than a mile down the road from our work (and of course meets and exceeds all of my expectations as far as accredations/standards/education/etc. goes.)

  • A 10 min drive. I may move him to a Preschool this fall that is right down the street.

  • Daycare based preschool is about 5 or so mins away from home and I can totally go backroads if the highway is backed up.  PreK is at the elementary school and we open enroll so no bus - its about 10-15 mins depending on traffic lights and if I go the backway or the highway.

  • 5 minutes.  So awesome to be heading out of driveway at 12:40pm and still on time at 12:45pm.  We're lucky to have a great preschool so close to us.
    Wheee!

  • It's about 20 mins.

Newborns often do great in the car; that wouldn't have been a problem for me.
