Does your LO self feed only, or do you spoon feed as well?
My LO has the ability to self feed without any problems, but I find it is much easier and cleaner if I just spoon feed (i.e., oatmeal, spaghetti, etc.).
We are pretty much the exact same. My son can definitely handle (and loves!) self-feeding, but sometimes I'd rather just spoon feed him to avoid a huge mess. Lunch, supper and snacks are usually when he self-feeds, but infant cereal/oatmeal for breakfast is spoon fed. It's nice when he can do it on his own for supper because then everyone else in the house can enjoy eating too! And those bibs with the bottom pocket work pretty well!
What the PP said exactly!! Some things (breads, puffs, fruit pieces, some meats) DS can do on his own. But sometimes he goes on a food strike and I give him purees while holding the spoon. I would rather give him that then him not get the things he needs to help him grow.
DD is doing really well feeding herself, and is slooooowly getting the hang of a spoon. We usually let her self feed first and then we give her some purees to make sure that she's full.

It'll be a while before I let her spoon-feed herself. She's not ready...she flings the spoon and throws stuff on the floor constantly, so giving her free reign with a spoon and oatmeal would = havoc in my kitchen. No thanks.
She self feeds all her finger foods. I feed her oatmeal, yogurt, mashed sweet potatoes, and anything else that is generally too mushy for her to pick up with her fingers.
My 10 month old little man is more interested in spoon feeding. He doesn't seem to like the texture of finger foods. The only thing thats worked so far is gram crackers. I have to feed it to him though so he doesn't take too big of bites. Besides he likes to throw everything. He is still a ways away from spoon feeding himself.
My youngest hasn't let me spoon feed her but once in the past 4 months (and that was only because it was banana pudding). I WISH she would eat stuff off of a spoon, but even preloaded spoons she just takes and flings to the floor, won't try to feed it to herself.
