Baby Names

Initials

I've got initials on the brain lately as the husband and I consider names.  I suppose this makes sense: I grew up JEW, with my sister KAW.  Even my dad has initial weirdness (CSAW).

I really would like to use my middle name for the baby if it's a girl (Elizabeth), and our last initial is L, so I am desperately trying to avoid anything that even resembles a real word.  It's tough when you like vowel names.  No Emmaline Elizabeth (EEL).

Has this come up for anyone else?

Re: Initials

  • As long as it isn't offensive (AS.S, ***, etc) initials don't bother us at all.

  • I don't think initials are a big deal unless they spell out A.S.S. or F.U.K.

Emmaline Elizabeth (though a little bit of a mouthful) sounds fine to me.

  • Unfortunately my married name with my DH's name spells out A.S.S. No good...

  • Did you have issues with the initials growing up? Personally, it wouldn't bother me, but maybe since you've had the experience, you know better. After getting married, my initials became ALF, but it doesn't bother me.

  • Initials aren't a big deal, IMO. My DH has the initials RIB and no one has ever teased him or even made the connection that I am aware of.

  • Well , our last name begins with a P and we don't want our kid's initials to be pp. So that ruled out one of my most favorite names, Preston.

  • Our last name is C and we knew DS would have the middle initial I so basically we ruled our D, P, L because we just wanted to avoid DIC, PIC, LIC. It actually was helpful in narrowing down names.

This is exactly. Is it really that big of a deal to have a strange set of initials? I wouldn't think that is something of great enough importance to stop one from using a name one loves.
