Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

H and I both gave mean dirty looks together

We were on our way to Annabel's one year photos and we saw a car with three babies in the back seat and both parents smoking in the car with windows up.

I was so pissed....I couldn't believe it!! Who does that? Those poor poor babies (they were probably 6mo, 2yr, and 4yr)

H told me to call the cops but it isn't illegal in IL.

  • I just don't get why this law wouldn't be passed already.....IL was very quick to banish smoking in any establishment

  • Thats horrible. Those poor kids!
  • I hate when people do this.  It's so disgusting and harmful to the children.

  • Here's the thing: I smoke occasionally when I go out with friends or at work. It would never ever cross my mind to smoke around my child or anyone else's. I just can't imagine what goes through someone's mind to justify that.

They either don't think or don't care.  Smokers think they can blow it out the window or stand 5 feet from you and their smoke won't affect you.  They are so used to smelling that all the time that they don't realize how far it reaches and how long it lingers.

I think a part of it is that they think "well my parents did it and I am fine." I have heard friends say that their dad/mom smoked in the house when they were young and I say "well that was terrible" and then they get all defensive. These are also people who don't have children yet.

Listen, I think that smokers do get a bad rap. I don't side eye someone smoking outside the mall, or bar, or movie theater, or whatever. I also don't make some squished up face like they smell aweful. They are in their legal limits to smoke outside. I also don't mind if we have a bbq and friends go smoke away from my child. But anytime around a child....even close to a child...is terrible and should be illegal.

  • I use to smoke before I got pregnant with DS. I started again after he was born, but would NEVER smoke in my car even if he wasn't in it. I wouldn't want him to sit in that smell when he did get in.

Thankfully I've quite again for this pregnancy and the thought of smoking turns my stomach. Hope I stay in that mind set.

I squish my face if they are blowing smoke in my path as I have to walk past them on a sidewalk or past them to get inside a building.  Gag.  I think it is one of the most disgusting things to smell.  And I think a large percentage of smokers are unthoughtful and disrespectful as to their smoking in public (though I don't think they realize it)

    I completely agree on that.

I do to.  I squish my face and make loud coughing noises as I walk through it. I HATE it.  I hate that workers smoke right by the door during the winter.  I don't give a f--k if it's cold out, you choose to smoke so get out of my personal space and away from my DS.

Take a chance. Take a risk. Take the initiative. Make your wishes a reality and make your dreams come true!

  • I saw a woman standing with a tiny baby the other day smoking like a chimney.  So sad.  I totally judge that, and to me, it's like, your addiction is more important than your child's health?  Selfish, selfish.

Yeah, that's what it is with a lot of people. I know people whose parents have chained smoked around them and they to do it around their children. I won't say who but a little boy of someone I knew was constantly coughing and the mom was like "I don't know why. At least he's coughing it out." .... :/

  • My cousin lives in Indiana and I live in California, he posted a picture of his 2 week old baby with him in a chair, and an ashtry resting on the arm of said chair. You better believe I said something. Here in CA it is illegal to smoke in a car with anyone under the age of 18, and everytime I see it I say something. That just pisses me off like no other.
