Anyone not get huge?

I keep waiting to get a huge belly, but it hasn't happened so far (27 weeks).  People just started realizing that I'm pregnant within the past week and a half, and when they hear I'm just about 7 months with twins, they are surprised.

I have an ultrasound this week, and I hope it shows both babies are growing.  My last one at almost 24 weeks  showed each baby a little over a pound.  I've gained a little under 20 pounds, 2 of which have been since the last U/S.

Are the next 2 months when you gained the most weight? I keep thinking its coming, it just hasn't happened yet.

Re: Anyone not get huge?

  • Define "huge"? I gained 47 pounds. I went to 38.5 weeks. I don't think that's "huge" but, yes, with two babies weighing well over 6 lbs each, two sacs of fluid, two cords, etc. I was big.

I know people who are small like I am that only gained 30 lbs, but they were still very big. You have two babies in your belly. Looking abnormally large, regardless of gain, is kind of inevitable.

  • I am also just about 27 weeks and while I am definitely bigger than I was with DS, I don't think I'm huge (though I sometimes feel it) and not all that much bigger than those I know with singletons (on 2nd plus pregnancy). That being said, I have gained 30lbs already and anticipate that by the end I will be huge since I only gained 35 with DS.

  • I hear ya I took forever to pop I poped at about 25 wks but at 28 weeks now I still get you are not very big for having twins! I do love the fact I'm Not huge but it does get annoying! I say just wait I'm sure I'll get huge :)
  • I was told I "wasn't huge" for having twins.  People even asked if the babies were okay (thanks everyone haha) but I felt huge haha.  I'm also really small framed so any belly I have looks huge in my opinion.  I have a snicky feeling you will be "huge" if you make it full term with twins but no, you might not get as big as some other MoM's.  Its all about how many pregnancies you have had and well - genetics. =)

  • I'm not trying to be offensive using the term huge.  I know 3 people who have had twins and they all were pretty big, understandably, from about 5 months on.

I guess I expected to be a lot larger and more uncomfortable than I am.  I'm also trying not to get too nervous that it means the babies are too small.

  • i never got huge like i expected, but i have a long torso and am 5'10". I imagine if I'd only had a singleton, I could have been one of those people who never knew they were pregnant. Stick out tongue

  • I'm 26 weeks and as of 24 weeks I had gained 14lbs.  The babies were 1lb8oz and 1lb11oz, so big for their age but everyone keeps telling me I don't look "that big".  I don't know what that defines but I am also 5'9" so I think it depends on how you are carrying them and how tall you are.  I was told by my MFM that I should be gaining 1-2lbs/week from now until the end.  I was a little overweight when I started (size 10/12).

  • well im huge.  im 33w1d and ive only gained 17 pounds...and my starting weight was 126 at 5'7.  and my belly. is. huge.  it looks so totally different as compared to the very end at 39 weeks when i was pregnant with my son. i didnt start showing with this pregnancy until 14/15 weeks, like i did with my son, but already at 18 weeks you could very much visibly tell i was expecting...whereas with my son at 18 weeks i may have just looked like i ate too much.

i cant believe how huge ive gotten, even in the past 7 days.  everyone has commented on the growth in such a small amount of time.

im sure it's just different for everyone...dont worry, you will be amazed at the growth at 30 weeks +.

I wonder the same thing :) I'm only 5 foot tall though, so no long torso for me.  It is what it is, as long as I end up with healthy babies, I should quit worrying about it.  Its tough to do when I hear about it all the time :)

    uh...yeah.

and many people think 5'7 (my height) is on the taller side for women....i have long legs but my torso is super short.  i dont have a long torso at all, it's very square/boxy.  so the height thing really hasnt helped me out a whole lot : )

  • I have a huge bump but the rest of me is still small.  I'm 5'3" with a very short torso, started out at 122lbs.  Today I was up to 154lbs and my bump measured at 34w.  Both my boys were on the upper average side of growth two weeks ago, I'm hoping they'll continue!

  • Although I feel huge, everyone tells me I'm tiny for two. I'm all belly basically, but have only been measuring about 2 weeks ahead. I'm 5'7" and was about 135ish before I got pregnant. I'm 168 now so only about 33 lbs. At 27 weeks I was a lot smaller than I am now though!!

craziness - just craziness!  you looked GREAT though.

  • I am 5'2 and appear photoshopped in pix as I am all belly. I am now at 201 and gained 54lbs so far. I've been on bed rest since 27 1/2 wks when I got out of the hosp and have gained 26lbs since then. So I am in fact huge, lol. I think it mostly depends on body shape and size.

  • I think I had gained about 28 lbs by that point. I got my first stranger comment as early as 14w but fwiw I have a short torso and I also don't have the strongest abs (I heard you tend to show later if you have strong abs, which makes sense). I followed Dr. Luke's recs starting around 12-14w though so I was aiming to gain more early on in case they came early. Hope all is well with you and your LOs! All women carry differently so I'd try not to worry (I know, easier said than done).

Oh and I should add, until I was maybe 30w or so, I did get people telling me, "You're not that big for twins." I took that with a grain of salt though since I was measuring 8 weeks ahead for the last several months.

  • I am 5'6", average build with virtually no torso, two sacs, two placentas, two babies who are consistently in the 80th and 90th percentiles (currently both are over 6 lbs), and I seriously am struggling to walk. Yet, still to this day I get told that I am "tiny for having twins"...I think that when people hear you are having more than one, they automatically expect you to look like Kate Gosselin or something.

  • I felt huge but people all told me I was "tiny." I'm six feet tall though so that probably has a lot to do with my smaller appearance.

  • Despite gaining 55 lbs. I really just looked like I was having one baby.  But I'm 6' tall and have a long torso.  I didn't look really ungainly until about 34ish weeks - I delivered at 37 weeks.  My boys were small - 4 lb 12 oz and 5 lb 9 oz.

  • i am a small person and FEEL huge but people say i don't look it.  nobody would think i was carrying more than one child but given their weights already i know they are growing in there and making room for themselves..everyone just carries differently ....some of my friends who carried singletons were just much larger than some who have carried twins...i also have been comparing my photos to my singleton pregnancy at the same week wise and there is a BIG difference.....so am I abnormally huge?  no but in comparing my singleton pregnancy to my twin pregnancy yeah definitely a different belly size!!

  • Yeah, I was definitely pg-looking, but I didn't get nearly as huge as I thought I would. I'm tall with a long torso too, so I'm sure that helped.

  • Everyone carries and gains differently, but I am very tall (5'11") and I got a lot bigger between 27 and 37 weeks even though by then I had gained just over half of the 50 lbs. I put on by the end. Your OB will let you know if you need to change what you are doing, but in all likelihood you are just fine.

  • I gained 40lbs total and had my two at 34w2d, they were smaller but I had about 8lbs of baby total. I carried very well, I'm normally about 139, 5'6" with a very long torso so many people did not believe I had two but I was 179 the day I delivered. I'm 10 days out and down to 153 so it's like the babies fell off haha. I'm very lucky that I did not get any stretch marks considering i have them from growing on my hips too. I figure besides the beautiful babies I received God gave me a break considering I had every imaginable problem you could have during a pregnancy with my insides...

  • It may be just that you have more petite babies (not too small just petite). At 25 weeks my babies were just under 2 pounds each. I'm definitely big. I was also measuring at 36 weeks at 25 weeks.  As long as your doctor doesn't express concern then I don't think you should worry.

  • I honestly really didnt get that big.  I delievered at 38.5 weeks, and didnt really have a huge belly, but I am 5'11'', so that had a lot to do with it (gained 35 pounds).
  • I don't usually get a chance to be on here during the day and only sometimes at night, so I'm sorry I haven't responded earlier.  Thanks for all the responses and the reassurance :)
