Another sleep question

So we started Ferber 2 weeks ago but had to give up because LO got a bad cold and was having a hard time breathing at night. Anyway, we hade made it down to one feeding at night but now we are back to 2-3. The problem is that DS keeps sitting up or pulling himself up in the crib. He shares a room with us (we only have a one bedroom apartment) and can see us when he does this. He also has not quit figured out how to lay himself back down and gets upset cause he is tired but hasn't figured out how to get back on his back yet. What do I do? I have been just laying him back down but as you can imagine this happens every 2-3 minutes for an hour or two until he finally falls asleep. Do I just let him cry and keep going to him at intervals even though I know he can't lay himself back down? Anyone else deal with this?

Re: Another sleep question

  • Have you tried teaching him how to sit back down from a stand? We've been showing him and he's slowly but surely getting it.

  • Honestly, it didn't really cross my mind to teach him to sit back down, I guess I just assumed he would learn it on his own like other milestones. I will certaintly start teaching him today though. Do you think I should wait to do Ferber until he has figured it out or keep going?

  • When my LO was going through this, I waited until he was able to sit himself down before doing any sleep training. During the day I would help him learn to sit by gently bending his knees when he was standing and I could tell he was getting frustrated. He caught on pretty quick.

     Good luck :)

  • Same as PP, when DD was doing this we took a break from sleep training and she ended up sleeping with us for part of the night. I put DD in her crib a couple of times during the day so she could get used to standing and trying to sit down when it is not dark.  It was a frustrating time but DD figured it out and sleeps great now.
