All this talk of buying baby stuff

I don't know, I kinda go back and forth about this. I have not purchased anything yet, but I do browse. I'm thinking of buying some props to announce to DH and my parents. I know if I wait, I won't have the props on hand when I get my BFP...but I feel weird buying stuff because I don't want to get my hopes up....

What are some pros and cons? I'm really on the fence about this.

maybe i'm a little superstitious...but I didn't buy anything before I got PG with DS. I was afraid it was like I was being way to sure of myself when I had ZERO idea that I could even conceive. Heck, I didn't buy anything except a duck wearing a fire fighter jacket (to tell DH i was pg) until I got a BFP. Even after I was pg, I didnt buy clothes or anything until after I saw the heartbeat and even then I was still feeling weird about it. But thats just me.

I won't buy anything until I get my BFP. However, I do browse, and I have bedding sets picked out. I just feel like if I bought anything now, it would jinx me.

Unless you can hold out on telling your DH until the props arrived, I would say wait but if you really want to announce with props and can't wait to tell I guess your only option is to buy now. However if your thinking of buying baby gear I would wait. You hopefully have 9 months to prepare for that stuff.

I bought cute baby stuff years before DD was born. Not a lot of things, but I found a couple of adorable unisex items on sale that I couldn't pass up. I'm not superstitious, so I say buy away!

Eh, it may just be me but I wouldn't. It is just extra stuff that you will have to keep finding a place for until you get your BFP.

I may be a bad example. I didn't even buy any baby items with DD until I found out she was a girl at my 20 week ultrasound.

I have a few things hidden under the bed for my DH when I get my BFP. He saw the jean dipers (He always LOVED them).

I have not bought anything for our baby, but I do by things for our spare bedroom so we can move the office into it and have a room for a baby. I think it would be to hard for me to not look at all the cute stuff I have bought durring my 2WW so, I dont buy.

This. I'm not superstitious, but it just felt strange, and I didn't want to worry about whether I would be emotionally affected by clothes or furniture if I had a m/c. When we found out DD was a girl, I went out and bought a pink ball of yarn so I could knit her a hat. We bought the nursery stuff after viability, I think around 29 weeks (not that that's when viability is, but that's when we found the time to do the shopping).

It's your choice, though. There's nothing wrong with buying stuff early. Do what you feel comfortable with.

I'm not superstitious, but I waited until I found out they were boys. I'm not a fan on gender neutral baby clothes.

I'm haven't bought anything yet because I'm not a fan of gender nuetral anything. I think it is ok to buy what you are going to announce. I'm only doing something special for my mom (he says he'll just tell his mother). I'm buying a picture frame that has a poem about having a new grandbaby. It has a place to put the ultrasound but I'll probably put a picture of the + HPT in it. I already checked, it says it ships in three days so I think I can wait that long. I think I'll be waiting on clothes and things until much later.

Everyone's pretty much said how I feel. I'm pretty superstitous. I've browsed and I know what I like, but I have yet to get up the gall to actually purchase something. The only thing I plan on buying is whatever baby item I'll use to announce.

Eh, I browse and enjoy purchasing items for all of my friends who are expecting, but not buying anything for me just yet.

I just bought my first prop two days ago to tell my Dad. I probably wont buy much actual baby stuff until we know the gender, but thats the only reason.

I'm all for positive thinking! I have to believe I WILL get to use it one day.

ETA: I've never had a loss, so I don't know how I would feel about having items around if I did.

Same here. Though I'm not sure if it's as much about superstition for me as it is that I'm also looking forward to buying everything when I do get my BFP. I don't know if I want to jump the gun.

It is the norm to not buy anything before you are pregnant. But I still bought baby things before getting pregnant with #1. You don't need to buy anything in advance, it is just for fun. Also, I bought things I loved for a great deal that I may not see again. It is a personal preference, no wrong choice! I don't believe in jinxing and I also knew if I was unable to have children that I would just give the clothes as gifts.
